here are the results of an SSS shader i'm working on for maya, i've only just switched to Maya so i'm still learning a bit about the stuff i can do on it...
anyway, here's what i've got so far... i'm planning on putting in some more detail like an epidermal layer but i'll need some reference photos, if anyone has links to high quality renders of lara's face, post them here so i can figure out if she has freckles or any such thing to make her face more realistic. the main point of this is to set up a more realistic looking skin so you guys can have better looking renders... anyway here are the results so far, and for those who are interested, i have some links to what i did previously, that might give you an idea as to how i go about setting up one of these ![]() the one above is with the skin shader, the one below is without, both are with the same light and render settings. the main thing about SSS is that it behaves like realistic skin with light penetrating the different layers of skin, at different levels.. hold your hand over a bulb and see the red glow that happens at the edges, all that can be mimicked using SSS so here's the thing i did before (posted on another thread as well) that shows how the procedure is carried out http://i47.tinypic.com/dvfpcm.jpg (different stages of textures) the final character http://features.cgsociety.org/newgal...3186_large.jpg (sorry for the large size of the first pic, i'll resize it if required)

I'd like to use Maya too, but I don't have that lot of money, lol! Is there any free version?

thanks everyone, i've had to put the skin shader on hold because i was doing a project for a job application for the past 2 weeks...
my final plan is to make a short animated film with Lara as the main character... any kind of feedback on the overall look of the skin is also welcome...
