Default [UPDATE] Version 1.7.7.1 of my TR1/UB installer

(where "my" = made using dosbox 0.73 by dosbox devs' team, glide patch by gulikoza, audiopack hack by kmo, InnoSetup by J.Russell)

as for me, other than putting the pieces together and adding a tweak or three, my two cents of direct contribution are mentioned here
at the end of post #7 where I rattle on about the alleged "undeclared Tomb Raider 1 survival beyond WinXP project"
see also posts #9 and 10

v1.6 is out
that makes version 1.4.2 somewhat obsolete, in that the cdrom image now carries all the playstation audio tracks which the pc cd is missing and which (thx to KMO's work) can now be heard ingame
the installer makes them transparently available
also, loading the tunes from image means better performance vs. a replacement cdrom
v1.5 is still there, much lighter (some 5 MB only) as it has no image, then again without all the image's pros, from speed gain and gameplay smoothness to psx tracks extension

Patch for changing installation folder (v1.4 - October 4, 2016)
Those who want to install to a custom folder vs. C:\tombraider which is installer's default may now choose any customized drive and folder as destination for the game files.
This little tool lets you personalize the installation path, and automatically corrects shortcuts and internal references.
Please note: for this patch to work the full v1.7.5 of the installer has to be applied in advance.

Patch for windowed mode (v1.2 - February 19, 2016)
If you feel your own display's high resolution makes fullscreen visually unsatisfying this patch allows you to play Tomb Raider 1 and UB in windowed mode.
Hitting Alt + Enter toggles fullscreen/windowed modes.
The patch includes nGlide v1.05 setup and refurbished installer routines and configuration files specifically rewritten.
See attached pdf for more info and tips.
Please note: for this patch to work the full 1.7.4 installer has to be applied in advance.

The TR1 Rerendered Soundtrack installer v1.4 is a standalone application providing a simple one-click way of automating the process of installing the soundtrack by Tomekkobialka, and in case of uninstalling it afterwards too, thus easily and fully reverting to the original non-rerendered PlayStation soundtracks such as the v1.7.4 Tomb Raider installer delivers.
Please note: for this setup to work. the full 1.7.4 installer has to be applied in advance.

to quickly sum main features up and latest changes:

Quote:
System Requirements

Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8/8.1 and 10
either 32 or 64 bit versions

At least 636.9 MB of free disk space.

Installation Guide

You only have to run the program. It has been designed as a self-extracting installer tool to make all the procedure as user-friendly as can be.
Once the game is installed, you will find shortcuts on your desktop and Start menu to play.

Features

This package installs both TR1 and TRUB files and complete setups, and also Dosbox 0.73 with Glide patch and DirectX9 update, already set and configured to play on Windows XP through 8.1 32/64bit straight out of the box.

It includes a complete working cdrom image of the original TR1 cdrom too.
Owners of a Sold Out copy of TR1 this way shall be able to hear the music from the pc cdrom soundtracks again, which Sold Out version is missing.
Due to legal considerations, owning a legitimate TR1 cdrom is still required to play, but no accesses get done to the drive, as all files are loaded from cd image copied on hard disk. This way, speed and cdrom longevity are enhanced as the game engine doesn't need to read cd contents anymore.

Self-detects correct cdrom drive letter and CPU 32/64bit architecture.

o Replacement of original Tomb Raider 1 PlayStation audio tracks (provided since v1.6) with Rerendered Soundtrack by Tomekkobialka [v. 1.7.2]

o Fix for compatibility with all the latest editions and repackaging redistributions of the Tomb Raider 1 cdrom available on the market, such as Superbundle, Gog and Steam packages: all these would go otherwise unrecognized thus causing prior installer versions to crash [v. 1.7]

Does that mean it won't affect it if we take the CD out of the drive during gameplay?

v1.6 only adds the psx tracks feature, installing them with the new and larger image so they're just there on hard disk, ready to play

about cdrom, well you know I'd been told to add that double cd check in the script to avoid legal issues and I haven't taken it away ever since of course

it's still there just like in v1.4, only as a check for cdrom presence in the drive (and it has to be just the real TR1 cd) every time the game gets started via tr1/ub shortcuts
but actually it doesn't access the drive thereafter since the mounted image is used instead (that's why you/I have the pc cdrom as usual, with no psx tracks, yet can hear psx tunes as loaded from cd image)

so yes, I guess if you want you can take the cd out once gameplay has begun
it shouldn't break the running app (namely dosbox loading image and running tr1/ub) because after the cd check is through it doesn't bother/need it anymore, hence the longevity and performance boost I referred to here in post #9 and #10.

^ Yeh that's why I was chuffed so I can use my original TR1 Sold out CD instead of the custom one I had to make for missing soundtracks

Okies Yeh I can take the disc out of the drive safely during gameplay

Maybe if you can get permission from Eidos, you could implement a disc check once so you won't need the disc in the drive after the first check from then on. Bit like TR2 & TR3 except they replace the original .exes with patched ones, so then it just seems to be inline with the way TR2 & 3 run.

btw I'm only suggesting that because I'm OCD on how things are organized
If legal issues are a concern then forget about it

Oh yeh and the game runs fine

Are you implying there's some way to run TR2 besides leaving the disk in the drive all the time? If so, what do you do?

afaict, even if I never really tried, the only way could be through an image, possibly a plain .iso which one would be supposed to load, but certainly not via dosbox this time (dosbox would have no clue how to handle TR2 and 3). Mounting through a virtual cd for windows application would probably do.

so glad to hear that as it's just what I was hoping for

I know, I'd be happy to, but you see they're not gonna let me/us/anyone
actually so it goes that just the opposite pattern will rule: the installer itself pays no heed to whatever the cd drive hosts, the cd checks must be passed instead each time the game starts

P.S.

although I already did a couple video tutorials about these installers available here:
http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1...tionalsoftware
under optional software
using Wink, same freeware I made my dosbox primers/tutorials with,

now I felt like making another one, 49-second video which I youtubed here:

The sound effects are still about a second late and now the game's really bright which makes it look washed out. The only problem the previous installer had was the late sound effects.

and exactly what's that previous installer for you? one of mine or something else?

gamma issues were easy to meet through dgVoodoo, and yet pretty easy to fix too there (via dgvoodoosetup.exe)
with Dosbox I never had them
and it's a good thing since it would seem that there's no way to adjust them
of course one's gfx card driver could
otoh,
I'd really like to know what your hardware specs are (please post a diagnose.exe report)

and anyway have you tried the patch "for fmv's" I included in the 1.6 installer?
that not only targets fmv conundrums, but resets the videodriver settings altogether so it *might* help a lot with some cards and with a number of poor performance issues
so what is yours?
