Hey everyone. I've been looking for some poems that deal with showing compassion for my theme assignment. Does anyone here have any good ones or can you make one up??

sure why not...aren't they similar in a way? If the poem can bring out how we need to show mercy or compassion for others then it'll work for my assignment

'The quality of mercy is not strained,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath: it is twice blessed; It blesseth him that gives and him that takes: 'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes The thronèd monarch better than his crown.' Portia: Shakespeare, Merchant of Venice, Act 4, sc.1, line 182. Also check out line 197! |

Wow that's beautiful. I hope that'll work. DO you have any idea what line 197 says? It's not like I have the complete works of Shakespear right in front of me .
Hey I never noticed that before- your from France? Are you French? Rogue |

'Anthem for Doomed Youth' by Wilfred Owen 1893 to 1918
What passing-bells for these who die as cattle? Only the monstrous anger of the guns. Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle Can patter out their hasty orisons. No mockeries for them; no prayers nor bells, Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,-- The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells; And bugles calling for them from sad shires. What candles may be held to speed them all? Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall; Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds, And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds. |

'Though justice be thy plea, consider this,
That in the course of justice none of us Should see salvation: we do pray for mercy, And that same prayer doth teach us all to render The deeds of mercy.' A4 S1 L197 No, I'm not French. [ 11. November 2003, 19:52: Message edited by: John Falstaff ] |

For Warmth
Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh I hold my face in my two hands. No, I am not crying. I hold my face in my two hands to keep the loneliness warm: two hands protecting, two hands nourishing, two hands preventing my soul from leaving me in anger |
