By the way Karl talked about him in the podcast, he's obviously not a random island scavanger. Or a ghost. Even less so Kurtis.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's going to help Lara on the island but is going to keep himself from being seen by her. Then when she's meets the 'leader' of the island creatures it is going to attack her and he'll go all hero and sacrifice himself in order to save Lara. That is going to be one of her traumatic experiences. They share some lines, Lara tries to save him but he knows he's going to die. Lara overcomes his death by promising she's going to get out of that awful place. She wipes a tear from her face, we cry like babies for her. It's going to be beautiful.

I think it's safe to assume he survives as well if they didn't want to reveal him. Some people were questioning whether Lara and Roth are the only survivors.
