Um no, Lara didn't know about the study. She just realised that there must be something hidden under his grandpa's coffin, when she saw his father carving "R.J.C."

Lol but the thing is... in reality there was nothing in there because its just a game and it's just a box made of polygons, but what did CD intend to have in there?

We need to figure this out. Someone email CEE DEE pronto~

EDIT: The box has some lettering on it. Can anyone make it out?

I think it was a type of flashlight or some gear that lara wore in the level.

Has anyone ever used a mod to explore this cutscene area? I wonder if there is an intact version of the manor behind the camera that we arent seeing.
