Cool TR2 Rerendered Soundtrack

TOMB RAIDER II
Rerendered Soundtrack
by tomekkobialka

Sorry about dodgy video-editing.

The aim of this project is to enhance the sound quality of the TR2 soundtrack without
destroying the nostalgia of the original.

The original TR2 soundtrack by Nathan McCree was synth-based, in other words there were
no real instruments playing - all of the sound waves were created by the computer using
MIDI.

Essentially what I have done is that I have rerendered the entire soundtrack by layering
the original audio files with instrument samples from the EastWest Quantum Leap sample
library using the Cubase DAW. So, for example, if I hear a horn playing then I add a
separate instrument track with the EWQL horn sample, if I hear vibes then I add EWQL
vibes etc. The result is a new, revitalised soundtrack which sounds more similar to a
real orchestra. It is also interesting to note that Troels Brun Folmann himself used
the EWQL sample library in TR Legend/Anniversary (among others!).

EVERY SINGLE MUSIC CUE HAS BEEN RERENDERED IN THIS WAY. I have also rerendered all of the
ambience tracks. CUTSCENE MUSIC HAS NOT BEEN RERENDERED as doing so would drown out the
speech/SFX of the cutscene.

Well, guys...I promised it will come sometime soon! What was really difficult with this TR was implementing the soundtrack into the game...there are so many different audio fixes out there, but in the end I decided to go with the solid version of simply burning a replacement CD with new tracks replacing the old ones (instructions are in the download pack).

I also included the stand-alone rerendered tracks for MP3 listening and sheet music for a piano arrangement of 'Venice Violins' for any fellow musicians out there to try out.

I REALLY need some people to test this out and see if it actually works...this is very much at beta stage and I am constantly looking for other, simpler ways to replace the original soundtrack with the new one.

Also, make sure to check out TR1 and TR3!

Well, then...the trilogy is complete! How about an UNrendering of the TRA soundtrack? Anyone interested?

EDIT: One of our forum members (BaFoKeemb) has recorded a rendition of the Venice Violins arrangement on the piano. You can listen to it here!

Downloading. Really amazing stuff. Would it be okay if I use this in my TRLE level? I'll give you full credit.

Holy crap, yes yes YES!
I've been waiting for this one
Although, I suggest doing TR4 after this, since more people are likely to have that game on these forums, than TRA, if you think about it. Although I am very interested in an "unrendering", as you put it.

Oh yeah...
But I didn't realize that you were going to include these works in a TR4 rerender project...
Or is that the case?

ATM it's exclusive to the remake, after the release of ROS then I'll be free to do what I wish with the soundtrack...I think. After all it's not rocket science to navigate to the 'Audio' folder and copy all the tracks.

FAO all: I only recently discovered a small bug where the cutscene audio and the cutscene itself are slightly out of sync. I'll try and find a fix around this for the next release , however, would someone please be kind enough to review whether or not the soundtrack works for them? My computer is superior to most (only j/k ) and I honestly can't leave this thread in peace until someone confirms it works for them.
