Can anybody tell me if they are experiencing the same problem with TR3 and the Win 2000 patch, i.e. the fmv's are completely skipped and it is no longer possible to enjoy meteorites falling and Antarctica views.

lmbrt. the Windows 2000 patches were extensively tested before released. My first suggestion would be to update your video card drivers. See you card manufacturers web site for details. if you're unsure of how this is done, return to this thread with your card details and I'll locate the drivers for you.

I'm also having problems, even after I installed the w2K patch. When I start the game, I get the opening screen, Eidos presents, and metor over Antartica sequence, all with sound, but when it gets to the screen where the control ring is supposed to come up, the game freezes and I have to use Task Manager to get out. The strange thing is, if I set up the game to play with no sound, it all starts up fine; it's just no fun to play with no sounds--you can't hear the bolders sneaking up on you. I tried the official patch from Eidos that is supposed to deal with sound issues, but when I installed that, the game wouldn't even start--it just crashed to the desk top.
My system is: Athalon K-7 1.2Ghz Asus A7V-E motherboard 256 SD ram ATI raedon 32 DDR AGP video card Soundblaster live 5.1 All the driver are up to date as I recently had to reformat my c drive...which is another wierd thing--before the reformat, I was able to play TR3--it was a bit twitchy and tended to crash or get soundlooped, but it played. After the reformat, I can't play it with sound. Sigh. I'd finished six levels before the reformat, and now I'm back on level one...with no sound...it's so lonely. Thanks for any help you can offer. not-so-twinkly tortoise |

I did update the ATI drive and there we are. No Antarctica and now I cannot even get to play. I will format everything and restart, but my feeling is that with Win 2K there are not 2 systems behaving the same way on the whole earth...

are you sure you both have DirectX installed ? we've since released patches for Windows XP which also play the games seemlessly. Also, which versions of Tomb Raider are you running ? European or U.S. ? Finally, send me your tomb4.exe or pctomb5.exe files and I'll make the modifications for you then send back.

I'm running the U.S. version of TR3.
I've tried it wil both DiretX8, the current version, and tried reloading the DirectX6 from the disc--neither one worked. I've also installed the Microsoft compatibility update (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...at/default.asp) which is supposed to make W2K compatible with TR3. Still no sound, still no joy. |

I think I know what's wrong here.
I had the same problem. The w2k patch is made for the 1.0 version of TR3. So install tombraider out of the box and install the w2k patch. It works. A lot of people however also installed the eidos TR3 fixes. I think that's the problem. Just install TR3 and the w2k compatibility patches and no eidos bug fixes (unfortunately). Patrick

Thanx for your assistance. It seems that Patrick's got a point here. My version is the one sold in the UK in a 2 CD's box with the Lost Artefact and therefore it should be the European version. It could be well a 1.0 or a 1.1 for what I know, or even a 2 (if a 2 exists) as the installation message says "you are about to install Tomb Raider 2". I wrote to EIDOS to figure out what they sold me but they wouldn't answer (shame). I do have the latest DirectX and the game passes the configuration test after setup, but it doesn't work when I try to play. I'm sending you the executable anyway so you can have a look at it. Cheers. Lmbrt

I also have the same problem, but I've never been able to get a satisfactory answer. Maybe this time!
I'm running Windows 98 and I have a Riva TNT2 video card, with the latest drivers, but my TR3 will not play the movies (Not even the opening Eidos screen!). It just goes straight into the menu screen and none of the in-game movies will play. Funny thing is, all the other TR games play the movies just fine - why should TR3 be any different? Please help.
