A couple of days ago, I made a Gmail account, after receiving an invitation from someone else - a fellow member of a greek tech forum I'm a member of.

Today I tried to log in, but it was impossible. I am 1000% sure I didn't do any mistakes upon typing my password. I tried and retried endless times, and every time it informed me that the username and password I'm giving don't match.

So the only solution was to try and reset my password. The way to do this, was by giving the alternative email address I had given upon subscribing, and they would send me a replying message to that email. But I never got any email to that address.

This happened long enough to make me worry. I have sent an email to the Gmail support team, but I' m panicked I am afraid that someone has hacked my account and is probably using it already. Is there any way I can find if something weird is going on? I don't care if they altered the personal info and use it for themselves, but I am worried in case they use it to send out stuff with my own name...

Help!!!

Snap! I just opened a new gmail account yesterday too - wonder if it's your user name I pinched! Just kidding!
If you use hotmail as your alternative email address, maybe check the junkmail folder for their email?
Failing that, try contact gmail via email at this link and explain your situation to them, let them know your second email address and see if they have you on record somewhere.....
btw, I just went in to gmail (2nd day of use) and have 6 invites I can send out, LOL! I know others have waited for months before they get a single one! (must be getting desparate)

I have already send an email to their support team and gave them all the info they need. I have stated that in my first post.

Thanks for the offer. The problem is not getting another Gmail account, though... the problem is if someone hacked my account.

I'm sure it's probably just a glitch Nicky. I can't count the amount of times I've created various accounts and they wouldn't let me in saying that the username or password was invalid (when I knew perfectly well I was typing them correctly). I know they were having teething problems with the service, and I'd guess they haven't totally disappeared. You have written to their support, if anything is amiss I am sure they will take care of it. They will have a record of your email that you first gave and your ip. If someone has stolen your account they will likely log in from a different ip, another way for them to confirm if your account has been stolen and as such close it so that they can't imitate you (and I'm sure they'd let you sign up for a fresh account). As Jenni says, do check your junk mail folder on your hotmail account (if that's the one you gave to them).

Sorry, I mustn't have read that part.
I wouldn't panic until I had received a reply - there's no point stressing about it if it's just a simple glitch, as Net says, that will be sorted when gmail support replies to you.

Thanks for that, Net. The alternative email I gave was not a hotmail one. Of course I did look in this account's junk mail folder. It was the first thing I did, actually!

I hope it is a glitch, but the thing is that my sister managed to log in with her username and password, and from the same PC I couldn't do this. This has happened to me in the past too, with other accounts, but always I found a way to get around the problem.

Glad to hear you sorted it out, Nic.

You know, I too had some trouble logging in to mine this morning, but after a couple logouts and clearing of Moz's cache and cookies everything went smoothly.

GMail is still in beta stage, so glitches like that are to be more or less expected. Not that it's not scary as heck to find out you're unable to log in to your own account (I had a very nasty experience with a Hotmail account some time back and can understand how you felt).
