Click Start / Run... type in
msconfig and click OK. Go to the Start Up tab, and uncheck every item. Now reboot and it probably goes a lot quicker. Could you post a printscreen of the complete list of items? If you want to locate the bad item(s), check 1 item ON again and reboot, andsoforth one by one. Might get time-consuming though. [ 11. September 2004, 21:08: Message edited by: joseph ] |

DirtyDandy, do you use Windows XP?
Do you use an antivirus application? Do you often remove spyware and adware? Do you regularily defragment you harddisk? How much of free diskspace have you left? |

DirtyDandy02, No problem, you can uncheck every item in msconfig / startup tab without problems for your WindowsXP itself. They are items that start up with Windows as long as they are checked on. They are all facultative. Normally, like some parts of the antivirus application, your printer, MsOffice, etc... you can always choose that you don't want them to start up with Windows. Bad applications that run without your approval may also be amongst them!

BTW: yes i regularly defragment. I use a program called Diskeeper, but that is not needed.
Right clcik "My Computer" / Manage / on the left pane of the menu you'll see "Defragment". Run it, it is never bad to defragment your harddiskdrive. The ofter you do it, the quicker it will perform its task. [ 11. September 2004, 21:55: Message edited by: joseph ] |
