Question

I just received my copy of Angel Of Darkness and I installed it and installed patches V42 & V49 but not V52 as recommended. I am also using TRAOD SCU.

First up my questions...

Which game version should I use, TROAD.EXE or P3 or P4 versions, I have a P4 so I presume I should use the TROAD_P4.exe. What difference if any does this achieve?

The game did not come with instructions (off e-bay) I can not work out what key to use for the Inventory Ring.

Now for my problem...

I have updated my graphics card drivers, and audio drivers. Well I think they are the most up-to-date versions.

When playing the voice of Lara is very fast, so I turned off hardware acceleration and it is now ok. But I would prefer to use full acceleration if possible.

Here is my DirectX Info

Yeah, you have the 'Lara talks like a chipmunk' problem, often heard with a onboard soundchip, even with updated drivers. Only 1 solution available after what you already did ('no hardware acceleration'), namely: put in a real soundcard. The best card which is no waste of money in every aspect is Creative Audigy 2 ZS. Around €60,- Worth every penny.

I think a driver update should do the job. I also have a VIA ac97 chip and it works fine (after driver update).

Your motherboard manufacturer's website will have the drivers you need.

It indeed looks very old.

Hey Sim, Joseph

I was in a rush last night to get it working before I had to go to work, so my choice of audio drivers was probably far from successful, plus my motherboard’s website was a fat of good. Anyways I downloaded some Realtek AC97 drivers this morning to try out dated 24/02/05 (although the ones that came on my m/b cd were ALC Avance drivers)

Installed said drivers, set the hardware acceleration back to full, and I no longer have any sound issues. Hooray

While playing I get some slow frame rates especially when there is a lot of lighting/shadow effects.

What graphic setup do you recommend for Screen format / Screen res / Colour depth etc considering I have a P4 2.4ghz, 512mb ram and a Radeon 9200 SE 128mb graphics card at 4x agp.

I realise the card has not got much grunt in it! I am planning to upgrade soon, when my monetary situation allows

Morning Henhead,

I'm glad to see the driver update did the job.

The PC is fine, the RADEON 9200 SE can't really cope with all the features turned on. It will kill the frame rate. I would suggest that you go into setting and select FF or PS1 from the default section and see how it plays. Then it is just a matter of playing around with the screen res to find an acceptable frame rate.

I have set the options to the ones illustrated below, it is running better, I loaded up the Breath Of Hades level, and it seemed to cope ok. Although I do need a decent card.

What card would you recommend, the only problem is I did purchase a Radeon 9600 256mb but I had to change it for the 9200se as it was not recognised by my motherboard, something to do with the AGP speed if I remember correctly.

My AGP is 2x/4x compatible, although the 9200se is 2x/4x/8x the card managed to switch to 4x agp with no problems, but for some reason the 9600 did not.

I could of course change my motherboard, but only if it is really necessary.

How about the Radeon 9550 256mb cards?

I experienced sortwise on my older pc. In fact, that was just before i built my current one, almost 2 years ago now.
I wanted to upgrade seriously with my newly bought Radeon9700Pro. But my pc did not co-operate! In short, it turned out that the combination of my motherboard (MSI - MS6309) and this card wouldn't work correctly (except for plain 2D), although i had placed in a new 370W Power Supply Unit to feed it.
So i built this new PC around a ASUS P4PE.

Henhead, for real performance in TRAOD and more DirectX9 games, only one advice: UPGRADE! At least to Radeon 9600XT. In fact, when you decide to spend money on an upgrade, you'll agree to not waste a penny, but follow a constructive strategy. This sadly means that you'd best change motherboard / Ram / graphic card / probably Power Supply too.
Radeon 9550? Dunno if you should do that, if it would really mean an upgrade.

Go with a Pro over an XT, you save money and frankly the XT is just an overclocked Pro.
