Default JoytoKey Tutorial (Useful for TR1)

I managed to get my psx pad working with TR1 by using the JoytoKey application

All you have to do is to get the key map for your joypad using the properties tab for game controllers in control panel, then assign keystrokes to all the buttons you wish to use.

I.e. button 10 (triangle on my pad) to keystroke space, which will bring out Lara’s weapons in TR1

You need to have the application running in the background for it to work, the only problem I had was with assigning keystroke End, for a roll so I changed it in the user keys to another keystroke (I used M) and it works fine for me

This should work for all TR games and any other games you have trouble with.

Go to control panel and select game controllers

Then select properties, in the test tab you will see red lights with numbers on them as below. When you press a button on your controller it will light up to show the corresponding number. As below I pressed Triangle and 10 lit up

I want triangle to bring out Lara's weapons, in TR1 this is achieved by pressing space, so I assign button 10 to emulate a space key.

When you open JoyToKey press create and type in a name i.e. TR1. Then next time you load up Joytokey select this setup and it will be ready for use.

To assign keys double click the button you wish to assign and when the next box appears press the key you wish to emulate and this will appear in the yellow box

If you are using a PSX pad the button map may be the same as mine, so you try to download This .CFG file unzip this file then place the .CFG file in the folder with the JoytoKey application and it will automatically add this to your configurations

I have it set to

Triangle - Weapons
Circle - Jump
Cross - Action
Square - Roll

L1 - Step Left
R1 - Step Right

L2 - Walk
R2 - Look

Start - Inventory

If you use mine you must change Roll to the letter M in the user key option within TR1 as I could not emulate the key End properly.

Like I mentioned the Joytokey Application must be running at the same time as TR1

Hope this helps

Great guide Henhead

Very useful for people that prefer to use Joypad instead of keyboard.

Does anyone know if there is a TRL profile to use with the nostromo.

I'd recommend putting a link to that program in the autostart folder, so you don't forget to start it.

I've just set my PS2 controller for TR1. Something I noticed about JoyToKey is that if you want to set Run, Left, Right & Back to the PS2 controller set Run to Numpad 8, Left to Numpad 4, Right to Numpad 6 and Back to Numpad 2. Don't set it to the arrow keys coz it doesn't seem to work with that.
Also, will JoyToKey work with other TR games?

Oh yes, JoyToKey works with many games! You'd better ask with which it won't work (none, i believe).
