Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition NOT a Remake??

[Multi] Eidos announce 'best of' Tomb Raider adventure

Contrary to recent rumblings across the internet, Eidos has revealed that Crystal Dynamics - the developer behind Tomb Raider Legend - is hard at work on a '10th anniversary edition' of Tomb Raider.
The Tomb Raider publisher had announced a special edition of Lara's adventures some months back and we discovered a trailer for a PSP remake of the classic action game stamped with a Core logo only a few days ago, along with a statement that the game had been canned. But Eidos has confirmed that the special edition Tomb Raider is still going ahead.

Apparently, Core was developing a PSP version and was unaware that Crystal Dynamics was also stuck into its own project. And while Core's game was a total remake of the original Tomb Raider, the now officially announced title from Crystal Dynamics will be more akin to the recent Splinter Cell Essentials game, drawing together Lara's greatest excursions into one adventure.

We can expect the anniversary edition to launch sometime in the next six months - possibly around November - when the very first Tomb Raider was released. That is, of course, unless Eidos is planning on celebrating Lara's 11th anniversary instead...

I've heard this rumour - that it wasn't going to be a faithful remake but a collection of levels done in the style of previous TR's - before.

Hmmm.. I wonder... kind of makes me even sadder that the Core remake won't see the light of day, but at the same time, I'm very excited to be playing new levels! Especially if they help CD get to grips with the ingredients of the Classic 'Raiders.

Yuuummm... new Egypt levels + mummies = deliciously terrifying prospect...

I must say I'm a bit disapointed if this is true.

I really want to play Lost Valley, Palace Midas, Colliseum and other levels from the first TR. If this is a collection, then many of the levels will be missed out in favour of others.

I know how you feel... Atlantis in today's graphics? Yes please!

But, at the same time, I do know TR1 back to front, so new levels = a new TR challenge, and I'm always up for that

If you read the Eidos statement correctly, you will see that they did NOT actually mention the word 'remake' at all. This has got me thinking....
