Default Tomb Raider purists are impossible.

Almost none of the complaints about Tomb Raider: Legend are actually valid. Short length and easy difficulty are the only ones I can remotelly see as passable. Everything else is senseless whining and complaining that everything is different; that it's not "Tomb Raider."

Puuuhleeasee...

I've played Tomb Raider since 1998, and have each and every console released edition since (including the original and II). However, as I watched and enjoyed other games evolving, Tomb Raider was woefully stuck with the archaic and needlessly difficult controls and gameplay. Sure, it was acceptable and revolutionary in 1996 and 1997. Hell, it was even enjoyable, but slowly and surely Tomb Raider was beginning to feel like a thing of the past.

This is exactly what bothers me; Tomb Raider purists want NOTHING changed about the remake. They want revamped graphics, but not revamped gameplay. But then it's not even a remake; it's a port, and a pointless one at that.

Think about that word. Remake. Being made again. Not being simply face-lifted and released again, but being remade.

If Tomb Raider elitists are perfectly happy with the original and don't want any changes (which seems to be the case), then they have absolutely NOTHING to complain about. They already have exactly what they want, and the release of a newer version for those who will enjoy it will not negatively affect them in the slightest. Me on the other hand, I've played Splnter Cell and Prince of Persia since and made old Tomb Raider games completely obselete in control and design.

Then Tomb Raider: Legend came along and completely impressed me. It had the changes and upgrades to help make it a completely up-to-date, enjoyable action adventure game.

But elitists didn't want an action adventure game. They wanted Tomb Raider. As far as I'm concerned, that is exactly what they got, only they are too bent out of shape to realize it.

My point: a single series should not be specific to such rigorous and frustrating standards as "grid-based gameplay," "tank-controls," and "isloation." Not only does the series become stale, dull and boring, but the developer's creativity is severely hampered. Who wants to go through the trouble of making a "new" game when it really isn't any different from the one before it? That's just a waste of time.

Sure, Tomb Raider: Legend had its issues; short play time, occasional glitches, a bit too easy... But it was a great product that delivered exactly what I expected. Crystal Dynamics created Tomb Raider: Legend and judging by its critical success, I'd say they're here to stay.

Purists, if you want your old Tomb Raiders back so much, they're no doubt no farther than a disc swap away, and you've got over a thousand great user created levels merely a download away that are completely free.

If Tomb Raider: Tenth Anniversary Edition goes the way of Legend, then I'm more than pleased; I have the reasurrance that a great Tomb Raider game is on its way.

Oh god not another one of these threads. You do realise that by saying people opinions are wrong this is going to be another thread with people arguing over how much legend isn't a proper tomb raider? Anyway I dont agree with what you said. Yes legend is a great action platformer but its NOT a tomb raider. Its as simple as that. You see the debate has already started. Now look what you've done.

Impressive remarks, TrojanMan. A sliver of light amidst darkness, it is.

Perhaps so. A radical thought, it is, but what if the seventh raider adventure is a redefinition?
