Red face Help pls!

How do I get this thing to work?

What do all those buttons in the red square do an what's the square on the right.

I've been trying for ages but never got the hang of this thing.

How can I place textures?
how can I play levels?
How can I use the TR2/3/7 models?
Can I download new textures?
etc...

Help pls...

Woah, woah RAID slow down Follow these steps.

Step (1)Right now you need to create a shortcut for the core design folder on your desktop because you'll be visting it, more often now.

Step(2)What you need to do is download each of the recomended programs (here), as you download each of them create a seperate folder for each one of them in the Core Design folder and not in the TRLE folder as that will mess things up. Also when you download each zip file, name them Install-File so it's easy to spot.

Step(3)You need to PM me your email address so I can e-mail you a script manager, once you have recieved it, do as the above step and create a tool folder for it

Step(4)Go to the script folder and right click on the zip file. On the drop down menu click extract here once that is done copy to the script manager tool to the script folder, in the main TRLE folder. Paste it into that folder.

Step(5)Go into the maps folder, copy the tut1 folder and rename the copy of it as Level#1.

Step(6)Now go to the graphics folder, click once on any random file there, tap the T key on your keyboard and you'l be directed to the beginning of the files beginning with T. Select all the tutorial files and copy them. Now we have to indivualy rename all the copies as Level#1 but whatever you don't replace any of the extensions such as tut1.sfx just select the tut1 and replace it with Level#1. When you do your first one just copy the Level#1 and when you go to do the others just select the tut#1 only and press the CTRL + V on each of them

Step(7)Now go to the script folder and open the script manager. Once there you need to paste this into the first text panel you encounter What we are doing here is creating a script block for your level, which is simply done by copying an exsisting level block such as tut1 and replacing the names highlighted in bold for you level but we aren't being ambitous today so we'll stick to Level#1

Step(8)Now look at the second panel, there is a list called Generic Strings... Now here is where you tell the program what you told to the first part of it, that you're inserting a new Level. The program won't do anything with the first part if it doesn't recognise it on the bellow list. So find the empty level slot selected in bold and insert the name of your Level: Level#1

Step(9) Hope you didn't close the script manager before now Now you click the save script and save english buttons, then click on the script button next to file at top to get a drop down menu, once it has dropped down click compile all.

Step(10)Quit the manager and ignore a DOS windows, if it is there. Now in the script folder, make you have your view set to Details. Now look to the type column, now there should be a script and english file with their type as DAT copy these files only, click back on your folder panel window to return to TRLE main folder. Once there paste the files and a prompt should appear asking you, if you wish to replace the current english & script files, click yes.

Step(11)Open winroomedit, once there you need to do the following things...

1) Click on the textures button at the top, on the drop down menu, click Load TGA. Now in the browser that has popped up you should be in the TRLE main folder, once there click on the maps folder. Now I forgot to tell you to rename everything in your Level#1 folder to exactly that Level#1 so do that now without closing anything but remeber don't replace any extensions such as tut1.TGA Once you've done that go back to the room editor and go into your Level#1 folder and open the file you can see.

2) Click on the Objects menu at the top, once it has dropped down click on Load Objects. Make sure once the browser appears that you are in the TRLE main folder, if not, guide yourself back there. Once there, click on the graphics folder, then click on the wad folder, then on your only level file there: Level#1. Now the necessaries are in place we get building!

3)Ok now we are going to create our first test room, now stick the mouse in the very top left hand corner, once there dragging across with your right click button until you get a red square grid the same size as in the diagram.

4)Now click bound room! What you just did; was crop the room to a size you wanted

Step(12)Now we need to follow these next steps...

1)With hopefully the floor tiles red, click on the lower cieling button circled in red for step one until on the panel below the cieling figure reads 12 which is selected in red for you as a visual aid.

2) I want you to click on the fact edit circled in red then left click once on the square image of wooden pannels to your right. Now drag across on of the walls with the right click then let go and you should have a textured wall. Like in the number two section, now there is a problem with the way I've told you texture they're stretched and this is a bad thing! As you can see.

3) Okay so we are going to sort these stretched textures, click the face edit button and the textures should vanish, once they have gone we need to select all the floor tiles again, so go to any corner and drag a selection across all the floor tiles. Once you have done that click the minus button in white next to the word cieling, click this button until on the panel below the word cieling says: Cieling: 8. Select the wall that you just wallpapered a few moments ago with the right click, then move your cursor over to where the number three is, click the plus sign button in grey next to the word floor. Click it four times and it should look like 3RD room diagram.

4) Do this to each wall and then, select any texures from the right hand panel, that you want to put there and wallpaper your wall, then do the floor and the cieling.

Step(14) Now below all the minus buttons there should be a place object button, below that there should be the word Lara and a figurine. Click the button place object and click the tile in the middle of the room.

Step(15)Now click on the Project button along the top with all the other button menus. Click on save and you'll be asked if you really want to save, click yes and go straight into the maps folder then into your Level#1 folder. Type in Save#1 as the file name and click save. It should say project saved, once that is done go back to the project drop down menu and click output wad. It should take you immediately to the WADS folder(If not go to the TRLE main folder and click on the graphics folder then onto the WADs folder). You then need to click on Level#1 and save then yes to replace. It should do some flashes and you should be prompted to click OK. Click OK and then close the room editor, open the TRLE main folder, double click on tom2pc, once it has opened you have to then click on the Add button. Select your level from the list, click open and then click build all. It will now compress your level, wait for it to do so. You will know when it has finished because it will say *Build all complete*.

Step(16)Close the PC Level Converter and go back to the TRLE Main folder, double click tomb4. The program will load, once it has press enter and hopefully your level should load. If not report back here.

Step(17)Begin to read the manual.

I shall now pass out on my bed

Thanks for the reply

This is all I know how to do so far. Blocks.

How can I create doors, switches, really complex puzzles and of course textures. Also, how can I link one area to another?

Alternatively, read the official manual.

Good to see such helpfull spirit in this thread! Well done BlackGrey!

@ RAID:
THIS THREAD might also help you with the next steps, like texturing and lighting.
It is easier to read and follow than the official manual.
