hey guys, not sure if this should be placed in the tr4 forum or the tr1 forum, but anyways:
i've just been playing tomb raider 1 these past few days, and just finished the sanctuary of the scion level in egypt. i wanted to point out something cool i discovered: once lara opens the door between the sphinx's paws and dives into the water, the two underwater statues are massive statues of the two brothers horus and seth. i just found it very cool that there's already two great statues of these guys and later in tr4 they both play a major role for lara. so, just wanted to tell you, so keep an eye out for the next time you play tomb raider 1.

Two brothers? Seth and Horus? I thought Horus was Osiris' son, (who was Seth's brother)... But, I don't really care about that
. Could you post a screenshot of that?

He means that the Pharaoh was considered to be the god Horus when he was alive, and when he died he became Osiris.
For those who want to know, Seth was the uncle of Horus, and when Seth murdered his brother Osiris, Horus avenged that murder. As this is talking about features in TR 1, I'm moving this topic to that section.

well actually neteru... as you must know since youve got the fitting screen name
... horus is seth's nephew AND brother... it all depends and changes in egyptian mythology since their myths were never very logical but far more abstract. horus the younger is osiris' son, but horus the elder is his brother. normally in egyptian art when horus and seth are shown together (like here in tomb raider) they are depicted as being opposing yet balancing brothers: light/dark, order/chaos etc etc.normally their unity represents the unity of egypt through the two brothers... sometimes even lovers! anyway, thats why i mentioned them as brothers lol, but of course they are also nephew and uncle. tr4 has it totally wrong though cause there seth refers to horus as his cousin! lol |

Yes G.O.L. it does depend upon which myth thread you follow and/or accept.

I've never heard that they'd be brothers too.... But I guess that depends on the source a lot.
And the Pharaohs were considered sons of Horus

yes kamrusepas, they were both initially brothers. horus represented the day sky and seth the night. both were sons of the star goddess nuit. it was halfway through the old kingdom in egypt that osiris rose to more importance, and they myths were changed accordingly to fit him in.
at first pharaohs did not become one with osiris after death, but instead it was believed that horus and seth carried him up to the sky to become an eternal star (thats what the pyramids were:stairways to heaven). but later in egyptian history the belief that everyone lived on after death became more favorable, so osiris was given more prominence and so everyone had a chance of getting into the afterlife. at the same time, seth was turned into a baddie and scap-goat, and horus was given a lesser role of being osiris's son... even though both these gods were worshipped in egypt before him. |
