I've scanned the forums and kept track of all of the things that players have said that Tomb Raider/Lara Croft is not, and based on that, I have come to the following conclusion:
Tomb Raider is not Resident Evil.
Tomb Raider is not Silent Hill.
Tomb Raider is not Metal Gear Solid.
Tomb Raider is not Splinter Cell.
Tomb Raider is not a B-rated film.
Tomb Raider is not Hollywood.
Tomb Raider is not a kiddy franchise.
Tomb Raider is not an M-rated franchise.
Tomb Raider is not for next-gen fans.
Tomb Raider is not for old-gen fans.
Lara Croft is not Indiana Jones.
Lara Croft is not James Bond.
Lara Croft is not the Prince of Persia.
Lara Croft is not an emo teenager.
Lara Croft is not a robot.
Lara Croft is not a recklessly cold-blooded killer.
Lara Croft is not a hero.
Lara Croft is not an anti-hero.
And the most surprising of all...
Lara Croft is not Lara Croft.:o

I don't know quite what to make of this.

So, Tomb Raider isn't anything and Lara Croft isn't anyone? Hmm... that sounds about right. :p

Are they meant to somewhat contradict each other?

Are they meant to somewhat contradict each other?

They are simply the most common metaphors that I've drudged up regarding Lara Croft and Tomb Raider not being a specific item.

As such, anybody trying to make any philosophical connection out of it requires psychiatric help. ;)

Certainly if you include all of what is said in here you'll get all kinds of crackpot opinions and ideas (along with what is subjective and downright wrong) and therefore a list such as yours that is totally contradictory and, well quite funny. :D Lara is not Lara, that's one for a tombraiderforums philosopher to tackle! :)
