View Full Version : Autosaves damaged?
When I start the game it says my autosaves are damaged and then it reverts them... Is there some way I can fix this so I don't have to start my game all over?

Hi there as far As i know there is nothing you can do has the game been installed correctly?
yep, I've been playing it fine since it came out, this is the first time this has happened. So depressing....
hmm... u might want to have this thread moved to the Technical Support section. u'll probly get more help there.
is there a mod around to move it?
You could try running the game from the disc rather than using a no CD crack, since that is usually why this happens. Your manual saves are perfectly fine, it is only the autosave that is damaged, start a new game, save the game at the first checkpoint then load one of your old saves. To avoid it happening simply create a second profile, back your old profile up into the new profile and only use that second profile when viewing extra's, just keep copying the old one into it each time your auto save gets corrupted. If it is the Profile that is damaged, it is a bit more difficult to solve and that is a know bug with the game that only occurs on a small number of PC's. The solution can be found here

Heres a previous answer I gave on the whole autosave corruption problem in Anniversary (I will paste it in below), so this should help both PC and PS2 players ......
DATA LOCATION & SAVES LOCATION ON PC
The 'bigfiles' are actually the data required to play a level and is found in c/program files/Tomb raider-Anniversary, and are nothing to do with saves.
The saves are found in My documents/eidos/Tomb raider- Anniversary
There you will find your default profile folder containing the saves... in files ending in .TRASave
Also you will find other save folders there, if you have more profiles.
Note: Where Anniversary is different from Legend is that legend has a total maximum number of saves in one folder, whereas in Anniversary, you still have a maximum number of saves, but can be spread over different profile folders.
This brings us to a related subject on saves....
There's a common problem (bug) with autosave corrupution or failure in Anniversary
PC
Its better to have backups of your saves, as you will have most likely come across 'Autosave corruption' where the PC asks you to try and recover saves, this usually does not work, and your in a mess, lossing saves.
What you do if you get this, is open the above save folders and remove all saves marked 'autosave', then try the game again.
If it does not bring you nearly back to where you were in the game, add in your backup savefiles or if you do not have any, then use this program to reinstall the saves for the level you are playing....

As I have completed the game now, I just use the above program to get to anywhere in the game I want
PS2
The horrible thing about this 'autosave corruption bug' in the game, is that it is also on the PS2, where its not as easy getting back to where you were in the game, as some or all of your memory card saves are corrupted.
To solve this, I use two memory cards, so I can transfer saves back and forth.

This has happened to me before try selecting start game (this is to start over the whole game) then it will show you the opening cutscene (feel free to quit the level anytime you dont have to watch the whole cutscene or play the level) then when you go back to the menu all your autosaves should be back:) hope this helped:D
The problem was likely to be caused by viewing cutscenes from the Extras menu. (If I recall correctly, the Tomb of Qualopec cutscene for example can cause this). TRfan9294's solution should help.
