The idea for this thread was inspired by my last thread that semi turned into a discussion between a couple members about relying on other people for stuff. I'd like to see what some of yall's opinions on friendship is.

For me, a friend is:
someone who shares similar interests
does things with you
talks about things with you, however silly or serious they are
doesn't ignore you
is there when you need a shoulder to lean on
doesn't cosign your obvious bull**** and tells you what you need to hear
doesn't let you do stupid ****
doesn't crush your dreams and aspirations

Friends are for

Laughing with (and sometimes at :))
Sharing common interests; but not all the time. Most of my friends dont like the things that I like.
Talking to

Some ppl prefer to be alone, but i dont think that everyone wants to be completley alone. I would think that they might want even one person that they consider a friend. From my experience, those who are often by themselves are that way becuase they are used to it, and werent good with social skills.

plus

someone who feels like an actual person
someone who doesnt add randoms they dont even completely know at all on social networking sites( this irritates me a lot because it shows how low the person/s are)
a lot of stuff

hey! you stole my friendship requirements :hea:
its okay :p

i don't really seem to understand why you think its "low" for people to add random people on facebook. That's kinda the internet equivalent of meeting new people in real life. Sorta (IMO) the point of the website.

For me, friends are for:

Support, Love, Kindness, Fun, and Laughter above all.

Boyfriends, well they're another story. :ton:

I think he is referring to people who add everyone they can just to increase their friend count and then never talk to the people they've added.

Mostly just this:)

- Someone you can always count on
- Have a laugh with them
- Share secrets
- Share interests
- Talk with
- Doesn't talk about you behind you back

Help you bury a body.
cheering you up when your whole world is gray
cares about you as a sister or brother does
share secrets with
have a good time
not steal you last slice of pizza
not take you for granted as a friend
tell you the truth ( mostly) or hide it for your own good

..etc :p

I might have different morals than the general population, but to me, a friend is someone who:

Is there for you whenever you need them.
Backs you up in a fight/argument, regardless if you're in the wrong or not.
Lets you know when you're in the wrong.
Lends an ear when you need to vent or a shoulder when you need to cry.

Among other things.

For me, Friends are people who-

- you can talk to about anything with
- are there for you
- tell you the truth, even if you don't like it or want to accept it
- can cheer you up for a bit, no matter what you're going through
- appreciate you for who you are
- are willing(sometimes :p) to follow you into Hell if need be

And that only scratches the surface

For me a friend is someone who :

- Can tell you when you are being an idiot/in the wrong/generally acting like a fool.
- Is there for you and gives you advice
- Tells you the truth - even if you don't want to hear the truth or accept that something is the truth.
- Knows when you need your space.
- Appreciates you/accepts you for who you are.

That's it for me.. or at least they are the main things.

does things with you (or to you :mis:, if you get what I mean...j/k :p)
talks about things with you, however silly or serious they are
doesn't ignore you
is there when you need a shoulder to lean on

that's very much how a friend is to me. :tmb: couldn't add better ones.

For me a friend is

Someone you can lean on when your tired.
Someone you can tell everything to.
Someone who knows somethings up, without you telling them.
Someone you can have a laugh with.
Someone you can be a ***** to and they'll still love you. :p
Someone who loves you for who you are, and not just on the good days.

A real friend always tells you the truth, not what you want to hear.
He is there when you're happy to be a part of your happines, and not just when you're sad, because people who are with you only when you're sad, arent real friends, they just feed themselves with your unhappines.
A friend laughs with you about other people, not the other way around....

Most of the so called "friends" I've had have been revealed to be untrustworthy backstabbers and the rest have just drifted away because their lives were so different from mine.

So I'd rather not make myself vulnerable to others ever again.

Help you bury a body.
I know, right? My back garden wouldn't look as smooth without their help.

Seriously now, my first thought was "laugh at stupid things". Back in high school I used to hang out with my (only) friend and talk about the many ways we could torture Santa.

real friends look out for each other, they are very honest in everything they say. they do not betray you, they have your phone number and they know your address. they also like to give you hugs  :)

Real friends, support each other

Make you feel human

Doesn't crush your dream or ambition

Makes you proud

Makes your laugh :)

Real (best) Friends are for:
warmth and comfort
social confidence and comfort
getting drunk with
confessing things to
sharing secrets with
discussing emotions with

... casually fooling around with... cause you're gay and it doesn't really "count"? :mis:

A friend should stand by you not only at the bad times as many people say, but also when you succeed in something without feeling too jealous.
Friends are there to go out with, talk about various topics and share your thoughts and problems. Personally I do all that with my boyfriend, but still, my life would be empty without any friends.

Let's see....

Friends of the same gender: chillin'
Friends of the opposite gender (or whichever floats u'r boat, I just wrote my personal preferences): letting one thing lead to another :whi:

We can sugar coat and say the idealistic answer, but the truth in reality is that friends could never perfect friends, because ppl aren't perfect to begin with. Don't expect friends to be perfect from the get-go, and you'll end up having the longest friendship.

companionship, someone you can say anything to and they'll understand you and vice versa.
someone who gets your jokes and makes you laugh too.
someone who will listen to your problems and help you solve them and you'd do the same.
someone with similar interests.
someone you never have to worry if they're lieing.
someone that likes you for you and you like them for being their self.
someone who will always have ur back and you have theirs.
someone that probably saved your life by just being your friend.

I'm not sure a friend is for anything really. All I know is I enjoyed the company and companionship with those I had and currently have. If I had to pin it down to one specific thing, I'd say someone who will listen is the most important aspect of friendship.

If I had friends, I'd tell you :p. Well, I have had them before but I usually only manage one at a time

For me, a friend is someone who will sit patiently whilst you rant, cry or whatever away, will be totally honest with you and expect nothing less from you. You can laugh and cry together, help each other unconditionally and really just be there. A friend won't care if you look god awful today or outshine them tomorrow.

That's all I can think of for now.

Wait, don't those two points contradict one another?
