General TRAOD Thread

Inspired by Jenny's amazing idea of having a general thread for TRIII, I thought this one would be equally useful. We have threads about how to make the game shine, about what the game did the best, Seth's awesome review, about the members' favourite levels... but not a place where we're able to discuss the game as a whole.

Quote:

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is the sixth instalment in the Tomb Raider game series. It was the last game that was developed by Core Design who had developed the previous 5 games. With a new engine, stunning graphics, a remodelled Lara and new gameplay, The Angel of Darkness was one of the highly anticipated games of the Tomb Raider series.

Quote:

A series of grisly murders brings Lara into conflict with a sinister Alchemist from the past, and a secret alliance of powerful individuals shrouded in mystery. At the center of these mysteries are the Obscura Paintings - five 14th century pieces of art that the Alchemist is desperate to repossess. Accused of the murder of her one time mentor, Werner Von Croy, Lara becomes a fugitive on the run. Pursued by the police, she follows the Alchemist into a dark world of blood, betrayal and vengeance where it is up to her to defeat this unholy alliance, and stop them from unleashing their incredible powers on the world.

Let's discuss this masterpiece here! :admles:

aidanmalone 09-07-15 20:45

Woooo! :admles:

There's so much to talk about and discuss for this game! :D

peeves 09-07-15 21:00

What a nice thread. :D

aidanmalone 09-07-15 21:16

AoD is by far my favorite Lara! The face is perfect and I think her personality is spot on for the person she was crafted into :)

LateRaider 09-07-15 22:42

When I talk about The Angel of Darkness, one thing comes to mind.

YAAAAAS LARA YAAAAS SLAY ME BITCH SLAAAAAAAAAY

Anyway. I posted in the General Tomb Raider thread in General Chat that I'm transcribing the PS2 version's script. It can be found here. Any thoughts on it so far? I'm right before Le Serpent Rouge. I do intend to do the whole game. :)

LCTRF 09-07-15 22:54

Hands down the Tomb Raider game with the best story. Screw the whole AoD Bashing it was awesome and Lara looked never better, deadlier and sexier (in a non sexualized way if that makes any sense lol). The combination itself with the dark setting, paired with the whole story just makes her whole character so badass. And i loved the script of the game. The dialogues were great (especially the one with Janice lol) favourite quote from the whole game...

Quote:

Move along, ma cher, you make the place look crowded.
Janice, you are the best secondary character in a video game, we love you! :D

It looks very interesting, keep up the good work! There is a true fan working on that. ;)

Btw never liked Kurtis that much as other people, but he was acceptable. :D

LateRaider 09-07-15 23:02

Thanks LCTRF! The branching dialogues are going to be the end of me, but I think I have a good enough system in place for them.

I also realize I forgot to describe the scene with Kurtis spying on Lara as she entered Le Serpent Rouge. That'll be in the next version.

LCTRF 09-07-15 23:09

Your surely have put some work on your own back, but than, I know how much fun it can be, I kind of transcribe dialogues of old Tomb Raider games into a headcanon detailed story, which Lara kind of writes in her own diary (like those she sell to finance her home, freezer costs and underwear).

Do you mean with branching dialogues these where you can choose which thing Lara says and will change some events? I would never get myself into that kind of twisted torture, but if it would help you, there was some sort of hidden text files of AoD flying around, containing the whole script I think. Perhaps somebody could help you where to find it (I forgot it unfortunately), it would make your work a lot easier I think. :)

Zhyttya 09-07-15 23:14

Lovely :) this game would have been the best TR if it had enough time to fully complete its projects...i say WOULD cause it's not my favorite TR.

I actually have the whole script dump available. I was typing everything up manually, but instead I'm listening to the cutscenes multiple times, finding the dialogue in the script dump, and then pasting it into the text file with rudimentary descriptions. Then I add onto it once I have the dialogue.

I only have three branching dialogues left though in the whole game, so that's good. Then the only other bad part will be testing the multiple ways you can treat Luddick: be nice and have 800 for the Scorpion X, be mean, and be nice but not have the 800.

With how much V-Packer Ammo you have by the end of the game, I really do think you should get that cursed shotgun back after Paris. :pi:

LCTRF 09-07-15 23:40

I treat Luddick always bad, in the end he dies no matter what you do and I can do the beginning of Prague without the Scorpion anyway. :p

Always wished that the Aquatic Research Area was (much) longer. It was my favorite section (well I liked the whole bio dome), but swimming sections are always something special in Tomb Raider. I was dissapointed by that sea creature though.

JsotoTRSaga 10-07-15 00:37

It is so much fun to call Luddick an Unsavory little runt. One thing i love about AOD is that i can treat people depending on my mood. If i wake up happy i might just be polite, but if i wake up from the wrong side of bed i may as well be allowed to insult the hell out of people like Bernard. TRAOD is so dynamic, so special, so UNIQUE <3

Enya Brennan 10-07-15 09:04

The conversation with Bernard is top-notch:

Quote:

Lara: Janice said you were a real charmer.
Quote:

Lara: Im going to have to tell your old boss how rude you are to the ladies.
Quote:

Lara: Apart from the money? What do you want, advice, a decent coat, deodorant?
:vlol:

Na...no chance i''m afraid :/ when they did TR Legend they look at AoD files but abandon them completely...there's little chance they'll remake now

LCTRF 10-07-15 14:09

^ A re-release of TRAOD would made it probably game of the year (:p)... but I see no chances, I gave my hopes towards an updated version of AoD a long time ago up, It was possible in 2013 I think (10 years anniversary) but then they started with the reboot. And btw a re-release of the other games would be great as well, just fixing light issues and updating HD Textures, it would be a whole new experience. :)

The theme wouldnt help that much on TR sales ATM.. The game HAD a great potencial, a great base engine.. But its like they had to delete stuff on an hour an release the game with some features @ 50% and some "left overs" in the game.. :hea:

peeves 10-07-15 14:13

Well being to mean to carvier was more fun than doing it to luddick and bernard IMO.

Yes! I was thinking that MAYBE they could launch a remake of TR2 for the 20th Anniversary...we'll see! imagine they redoing the classic every 10 years! And THEN when the game had 60 years they would remake AoD :P ahaha i will be a old granny forcing my grand kids to play ALL OF THE TOMB RAIDER GAMES

Tr2 would be great, AOD i honestly think not.. Its a bit to diferent from the current game them and not as emblematic.. But TR2 or even TR4 would made the best remakes ever. And the Third word my "sons" gonna learn its "Ah HA!" when they discover something., so Tomb Raider would be obligatory in my house. Oh, and being the first word "Brains" because i want little zombies around the house chasing people :D

Oh you can teach them that with no problem at all :p

Jorje Croft 10-07-15 14:34

I just wonder ,there are too many fans in 2015 of Aod, were they where in 2003? I was a baby kid.but.... fans could survive that AOD franchise at all....

I always find that idea appealing, but I think the chances are low that we get a Tomb Raider II Remake in two years (Otherwise I would have hope). I always thought I was the only one that would want remakes, everybody just said Crystal would destroy it, but if done right they could make at least decent games (just don't alter the stories, made it more detailled and let Lara be a coldblooded badass). They obviously showed that they can do great environments and if they destroy the game completely we still have our originals left, so no problem there I think. Just imagine the wreck of Maria Doria in next gen...... I need it. :D

No please. If the remake was done in the reboot style, only the combat will benefit. I'd rather if they did something like Lara Croft and the Dagger of Xian, in the style of the LC games.

peeves 10-07-15 15:36

Well I don't never see no remake of TR2 happening for the 20th anniversary.

Yap exactly. U don't want TR2 with the style of the reboot, but TR2 with today's graphics would be amazing :)

I don't want that as well. I hate the style of the reboot - action shooter all over - i would want to see, however, is a updated graphic version of TR2.

I'd love to see Temple of Xian or Maria Doria in today's graphics, I admit it. But I prefer to have the original as a reference forever.

All the levels around the hall of seasons, though I struggled at times, this was my favourite section :D

There's something so creepy about the sanitarium, I enjoyed this part and I'm a big fan of Kurtis <333

Wbu? XD

Yes Kurtis is an amazing character! He survived, but i always wanted to know how their relationship would evolve...or where did he go after defeating Boaz...oh...so much unanswered questions :(

Enya Brennan 10-07-15 17:27

^As it has been said many times here, Kurtis raided Lara's tomb :pi:

I love the Louvre :cln: And the dig, and the hall, and the bio-dome, and...

Dat level is too creepy for my taste :( These enemies are *shivers*

Can't I ask? :p

LCTRF 10-07-15 17:27

Well, I think Kurtis would show up in the first or second sequel to AoD again and would explain to Lara how he'd survive, but we'll never know, since the trilogy was dumped.

The Sanitarium was a great level, just fits the dark tone of the game perfectly.
