I really like the artstyle as well, for a spin-off. I don't mind it being mobile, or Free To Play.
The Sims also has a pretty interesting mobile version that doesn't interfere with the main entry (to my knowledge), so it it's something in those lines, it could be cool |
Not a mobile free-to-play game... :(
|
Nice. I even like the art style.
Why spiders though? I don't remember spiders in TR1.
Spiders are from TR2 (China)! |
Free-to-play? Yikes. The only way that won't turn into a dumpster fire is if the reason it's free is because they want it to be an anniversary gift for the fans and I honestly can't see them doing that. Well, I'll still reserve judgement until we have more info but that bit of info has just made me way more sceptical.
Nice. I even like the art style.
Nice. I even like the art style.

Just remember even if you don't like the look of this ( I'm not too sure of it myself ) it's at least acknowledging classic TR and is likely just the start of more to come.
|
Though I don't really care for mobile games, I really like the art-style. It's great to see Classic Lara coming back in some form.
But I'm certain we could get more for the 25th anniversary. :jmp: |

I mean, yeah... the 2007 Anniversary’s always gonna be there in the corner. We needed the Classic appreciation these days. |

Though I don't really care for mobile games, but I'm certain we could get more for the 25th anniversary. :jmp:
Yeah if we could have more exciting things later next year's, I'm totally satisfied with this little game for the start of the year. Even if it is F2P. If it's the only thing though. :ponder: |
Spiders are from TR2 (China)!
I'm not so sure about that. All the architecture in the trailer (including the backdrop for the spiders) is South American. I think they've simply gone and added spiders to TR1. Incidentally, Core Design also added spiders to the Peru section of their TRAE. I don't think that this is based on Core's TRAE but still, there's precedent for spiders in a TR1 remake xD. |
Although the trailer looks fab, the game itself could look completely different. I need to wait and find out more. Just some screenshots ingame would be nice, as atm I'm nervous. This whole art style could just be for the trailer? I don't know. If it ends up being a pay to win mobile game what a slap in the face that would be. Otherwise why would the game be free? How are they making a profit from this? I need moreeeeee

When Square Enix Montreal announced there will be no sequel to Lara Croft Go, they said because Square Enix found prenium mobile games not profitable enough. Unfortunately it seems we're stuck with Free to Play products for a moment. :( |

It would be terrible if it’s pay-to-win and difficult-on-purpose like Relic Run. |
Looks interesting... although the fact that it’s free to play definitely sets off many alarms.

WHERE.IS.MY.BOW!?
Hopefully, in Avalon. ----- I'd like this not to be mobile. Phones are for making calls, messaging, and getting into tombraiderforums. Not for this. |
I'm sorry, but why are people upset about it being free to play? I don't understand the importance of it.
Maybe if it goes down well, they'll consider more? |

Lara Croft Go should have change your mind about this long time ago. :ohn: |
The art style is nice. Honestly, I'm just glad we're getting something.
|
Yawn, how incredibly lame and underwhelming...
This is not what we wanted, not what I want that's for sure. |
I'm sorry, but why are people upset about it being free to play? I don't understand the importance of it.
Maybe if it goes down well, they'll consider more?
Because most free mobile games are heavily tailored towards making you pay for coins/currency to get ahead in the game. The Hogwarts Mystery is a good example. Whereas a mobile game you pay for (Like Lara Croft Go) doesn't have any currency and you just play it all. This company... Emerald City Games. This is their other released title... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.emeraldcitygames.erpg |
It would be terrible if it’s pay-to-win and difficult-on-purpose like Relic Run.
That's not even what I'm worried about. I'm just imagining this auto-generated endless map style of game, where all we do is run around and collect gems and defeat enemies for points, while also competing with friends. That would be so lame. That's ok for like, our mums or something but I want a full adventure in this art style, with levels and with a beginning and an end. |
I'm sorry, but why are people upset about it being free to play? I don't understand the importance of it.
Maybe if it goes down well, they'll consider more?
Because free to play doesn't always bode well. Hopefully they won't try to nickel and dime everyone. |
I'm sorry, but why are people upset about it being free to play? I don't understand the importance of it.
Maybe if it goes down well, they'll consider more?
Normally with free-to-play games on mobile they’ll include micro-transactions. So if you need keys, gems whatever you have to actually pay for them or grind hard to obtain them. |

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.emeraldcitygames.erpg
Good idea to look about the studio past games. Ugh I hope everything is different from the one you shared though !
Yawn how incredibly lame and underwhelming
I'm surprised about your reaction, at least I thought you will like the tone of the trailer |
Lara Croft Go should have change your mind about this long time ago. :ohn:
First tried it on PS4, and only downloaded it for mobile when Square gave it for free during the beginning (ages ago) of the pandemics. But yes, you are right, it is a good game :pi: |
Good idea to look about the studio past games. Ugh I hope everything is different from the one you shared though !
Yeah I don't have high hopes if it's anything like this, but we'll see. I could be completely wrong. Need to see in game. |
Eh.
I’m glad they’re acknowledging classic Lara again, but eh. |
I'm surprised about your reaction, at least I thought you will like the tone of the trailer
The tone alone is not enough to satisfy me. I knew that whatever was coming was going to be classic oriented, but I didn't know it was going to be superficial and meaningless. These days I expected much more, I want a fully fledged Tomb Raider game, a true Tomb Raider game. I most definitely wasn't expecting some lame mobile game that won't feed my hunger. |
First tried it on PS4, and only downloaded it for mobile when Square gave it for free during the beginning (ages ago) of the pandemics.
But yes, you are right, it is a good game :pi:
The fact you've played the game on PS4 is enough indication for me. :p It plays good with dual shock ?
The tone alone is not enough to satisfy me. These days I expected much more, I want a fully fledged Tomb Raider game, a true Tomb Raider game.
Fair enough, because you were more exciting by Ubisoft Lara Croft content that's why haha. I understand you may expect more for the real publisher. |
I'm sorry, but why are people upset about it being free to play? I don't understand the importance of it.
Maybe if it goes down well, they'll consider more?
Because a game being free to play tends to have pretty significant implications for how it's designed. If they can't get your money by charging upfront, they need to get it by selling you in-game items, in-game currency, experience points, etc. which will usually result in the game being designed in a way that actively pushes you towards making those in-game purchases. This will result in a greatly inferior gameplay experience because the game designers' primary objective wasn't to make a fun game, it was to make an exploitative game. (And there are exceptions. Some free-to-play games manage to straddle the line and provide an experience that's both fun and profitable but especially mobile free-to-play games are notorious for being exploitative and badly designed.) |
They really try to get out of the way to do a proper Game with Classic Lara
|
Yeah I don't have high hopes if it's anything like this, but we'll see. I could be completely wrong. Need to see in game.
Indeed. I hope when Square Enix London engaged them, they have a more ambitious and different product in mind. |

That's on the Google Play page of this studios other released mobile game. Could mean nothing, but I'm worried.
Indeed. I hope when Square Enix London engaged them, they have a more ambitious and different product in mind.
I'm praying. But they've gotta get money from somewhere if it's free. |
Meh... glad they're acknowledging TR1 and classic Lara, but a mobile game instead of a full platform release? The dislikes on the video are wild... yikes!
|
OMG! It's Classic Lara! And the classic sounds!
I really dig the art style. A mobile game though... a tad disappointing. But I'll reserve judgement until I see more of it. |
They really try to get out of the way to do a proper Game with Classic Lara
I like to think they are paving the way for such game by doing something like this. |
Literally give it to ANYONE but crystal dynamics to give Lara's appearance justice.

She does look good! Mop hair no more!!
She does look good! Mop hair no more!!
She does! And if gives me LIFE that it's actual Classic Lara iconography and not LAU (that they've been trying to pass for Classic for years!) |
