^ The janitor outfit is bad althogether tbh :p It plays nice in the game, but visually it looks awful lol

So I was replaying this game yesterday, and I just realized how much I LOVE the caves from it:eek: They look really nice artistically, and that's where the graphics shine most. I wish they were bigger and heavier with exploration tbh (same could be said about the entirity of the reboot but still...). The ones with ancient stuff in it are even better tbh. Huunff <3

Sir Launcelot 02-11-15 19:58

I think Shipwreck Beach is really the coolest level in the game visuals-wise, really, it's one of the neatest places I have ever seen in ANY videogame. Kudos to whoever conceptualized that and did the art, you guys rock!

WWETombRaider 02-11-15 20:07

^ I agree with that. Shipwreck Beach is my favourite level in the game.

Peep Show 02-11-15 20:26

Shanty Town would be my favorite area in the game if it wasn't for those dumb combat sections.

Trenton 02-11-15 22:37

Shipwreck Beach ftw! :tmb:

Lara_Fan1 02-11-15 23:02

I actually prefer the Caves shes in. The beginning, Gothmorg (as I call it) Caverns and even the side tombs. Yeah they're very short and very very linear but they're the best. It's what Tomb Raider is about being in closed spaces and finding your way through.

They should of had a massive cave as a hub, that's what was really missing in the game. Yeah Shipwreck beach was fun but honestly but it wasn't the best area. It's the best hub, by far but not the best area. For me at least.

Trenton 02-11-15 23:04

^I'm not really a big fan of the caves in the game tbh. :p :o

Sir Launcelot 02-11-15 23:14

I dislike caves in any of the games. Dank, dark, grey brown rock, spiders, bats... ugh.

Give me beautiful coastal jungles, beaches, and tropical forests, all concealing the entrances to fantastic tombs...

VictorXD 03-11-15 00:23

I never really liked the colours of Shipwreck beach :ponder: Too much grey, makes it look too bleak it is like a throwback to TRA... And also, I think the water splashes and the rock textures look reaaaaaally ugly, so that doesn't contribute to the overall look of it IMO.

WWETombRaider 03-11-15 00:58

The level where you have to escape a burning building was also very fun. Can't remember what it's called, but it was well done.

Yessssssss always the section i'm mostly looking forward to when replaying the game, too bad it wasn't a hub, it belongs to shanty town I guess.

I agree, it can look pretty ugly, there's also some visibe aliasing in that area which hurts the image quality.

AntRaidsTombs 03-11-15 03:04

Even though it was short, i enjoyed where the Oni Warrior battle took place and Chasm Ziggurat.

Well, it is a bit bleak that way, but the overall effect is still stunning, IMHO. Just think what it would look like if it were colored like Coastal Thailand... :D

The Solarii Fortress? That was quite fun, lots of good combat in there. The Solarii Fortress Tower is next, and you have to escape that while it is burning too, but I don't think it's much fun. My PC gets low framerates on that level, and Lara turns into a frog, she keeps hopping to her death during the jumping and climbing arts, can't control her right.

I ran into a nasty bug there too, after jumping off the suspended crate and onto the windowsill to get back outside, rather than the cutscene playing, Lara would just hang there. I had to drop her into the fire and do that part again, more than once...

I've run into other bugs as well; animals in the ground that can't be shot, salvage crates that fall and disappear into the ground... Today I dropped a salvage net with a fire arrow in the Summit Forest and when I went back for it later, it had slid into the river, and Lara would not salvage it. I have seen this with animals as well, Lara won't grab anything in moderately deep water. I don't know why, she could sure use a good dunking most of the time...

Also, sometimes she shows the wrong anims, she'll keep her hands up like she is next to fire, even though she is long away from the fire later on, and she'll keep bending down when there are no enemies near.

Yeah, I loved that level too!

Enya Brennan 03-11-15 15:33

Mountain Temple also had a burning building, iirc. Very enjoyable hub with nice platforming. But Mountain Village still remains the best!

Geothermal Caverns had a very claustrophobic feel for me. I had to watch out all the time, expecting one of the cannibals to attack me. It was a tense part, and it's still this way whenever I replay the game.

Yeah, I dislike the main menu because of that too, it looks so LQ.

The waves look so plastic tbh

Enya Brennan 03-11-15 21:42

There were times when water looked gorgeous in the game (the seaside cliffs vista) and others when it looked absolutely horrid (the currents, the rivers). Very unnatural imo. There was no tide flowing at all.

Geothermal Caverns was a pretty easy level though, and you just had to axe a couple of cannibals. I agree about Mountain Village, that is also a really cool hub. I wish there was more to wander around in there. So much of the game you can't go back to later, which is a shame.

BTW, does anyone know a way to get back to that upper part of Mountain Village that you go through on the third visit? Since there's collectibles there, I would think there would be a way to get back up, but I can't find a way to jump back onto the zipline from the lower cabin, is there another way?

I like the sea at Shipwreck Beach, and the water in smaller streams like in Coastal Forest, but in some places, like shantytown, the water is very ugly. Of course, that is a dirty place to begin with.

Shantytown is one disgusting place tbh. :ponder:

Shirley_Manson 03-11-15 22:52

I liked Shipwreck beach and Mountain Village the most, cause they have gorgeous vistas, and feel the most open.
I liked the area at the beginning of the game, when Lara escapes the cave. It's sunny and beautiful, then it starts to rain until it slowly turns in to a storm. Also I always stare at the shipwrecks. :p

You can almost smell the rotting garbage and wild boar poop there... :vlol:

It's got lots of nooks and crannies though. It's another place where I wish you could explore more rather than getting cut off from large parts of it because of the linear gameplay. I want to go back up on those big gondola towers - all of them. I want to climb on the giant bridge where Lara had to go underneath while Roth sniped her way clear. etc...

AntRaidsTombs 05-11-15 23:54

I'm playing the definitive edition again before Rise. I forgot all about where Lara has dirt on her face in the videos she's watching back on the camera. I always skip those scenes.

RWTSB 06-11-15 10:04

I have finally finished the game 100% Its was a drag especially the multiplayer. But I still find the single campaign to be AMAZING :)

Yeah, it wasn't a difficult section to go through, but they nailed the atmosphere there for me. As well as in Mountain Village, brilliant hub.

Could you specify a bit more? I can't figure out the exact place right now :p

Oh, that's right. The sea and the streams were pure eye-candy, but in the rivers the water was horrible. It was a plain texture, no form at all...

I'm talking about the area you come into from the Chasm Monastery, you know, when you fall down through those board bridges and into a cave and come into the Mountain Village for the third time. There's an upper area where you wander around collecting stuff, and then a bit further on like 3 Solarii on a ledge below. You kill them, jump a chasm to reach their ledge, and from there you can zipline down to that one cabin where Lara tells Sam she is coming to save her in a cutscene.

From that cabin you can zipline back over toward the Village Plateau camp - it's not far, you can see it - or go the other way where you have to kill more Solarii and then go through that horrible water/plane/parachute sequence.

What I meant was, from that cabin, is there a way to reach the zipline again and go back UP to that area where you killed those three Solarii on the ledge? I couldn't see a way, and there are GPS caches up there, plus statues to light, so I figured there MUST be a way back up...

Enya Brennan 06-11-15 23:44

Yep, you can go back there. You must reach the plateaus area first, and there should be a zipline that takes you back down.

WWETombRaider 07-11-15 00:53

I think it's time I replayed this. I've only played through it once, when it got released.

What plateaus area?

It's a high up area, I don't think you can go DOWN to it.

You might want to check out the Rise of the Tomb Raider section. The game is out now, so be careful of spoilers. You really do need to browse the forum a bit :p.

Btw, we told you about it before ;).

VictorXD 14-11-15 16:00

Has anyone else ever got a bug where Lara when is gonna skin an animal (in my case it was an wolf) and instead of the normal animation, Lara uses her pickaxe? It was a one time thing that I was never able to recreate, but she crouched and used her pickaxe with both her hands. It looked pretty awesome, but I have no idea what triggered it.

And there was this one time where Lara actually had an arrow in her hand when standing still with the bow drawn, and not with the invisible arrow. I didn't pause fast enough to get a picture but it did look 10x times better.

Enya Brennan 14-11-15 18:45

I think I've tried to reproduce the Lara-with-arrow-on-the-bow idle animation multiple times. And if it's the same one you mention, I recall doing the same all the time: aim the bow, start pulling the trigger, let the aim button without releasing the arrow, she should have the bow in hands with the arrow ready.

ivaneiroX 14-11-15 20:55

You need to use rope arrow and stop aiming right after shooting it https://twitter.com/IvanJCroft/statu...32930983751680 (video)

VictorXD 14-11-15 22:07

Oooh I see, thanks! :D

I can see why Crystal decided to use the invisable arrow, that thing looks absolutaly massive

Just a curious observation... I replayed the game after two years and just realized something... Lara's character development pretty much ends the moment she climbs the radio tower... she becomes a strong-willed, self-confident survivor who takes no **** from anyone... the rest of the game is pretty much just about turning her into a superhero... they setup a revenge story for her by killing Roth (the rest of the characters doesn't matter at all) and give her her iconic outfit and gear.

That's arguable. Mainly because at that point she was yet to lose Grim, Roth, and Alex, and go through two failed attempts to escape the island, both of which resulted in more deaths (two pilots and Roth). Also, she wasn't a believer either until much later in the game.
I get what you mean though.

I see the these character deaths more as a fuel for the "revenge" part of the plot as they do not really move her development anywhere. But they only work as a motivation for Lara and not the player, as these characters are just paper thin archetypes. Lara obviously cares about them and their deaths mean something to her, but only Roth's death works like that on the dramatic level. The rest is pretty much there for the body count... at least that's how I feel about them anyway.

Phlip 05-12-15 14:01

In the Definitive Edition (PS4), does anyone else have that problem where the camera goes slowly when moving the camera up or down diagonally?

TheShadowOfMe 13-12-15 18:27

I've just re-watched that first trailer for reboot.. And I'm asking myself, why they didn't put the ending of CGI as actual ending of the game?! I think it would be so much better, also she'd be the only survivor, and I think that it would change RoTTR story.
