But there is no grab button as far as we know, only autograb so far. :/

Because a mod decided to close all the individual TR game random facts threads, so a general TR random facts thread was made.

Lukass 11-03-12 17:14

I think it's been closed because it was a) rubbish or b) it was pointless in this section because we have the TR General Chat in here.

Adrenaline 11-03-12 17:43

So anyone making a thread?... No?....Guess I should go ahead then?.

There have been scarecrow sightings throughout the artwork and gameplay of Tomb Raider.

FROM THE E3 GAMEPLAY:

FROM THE 'Night Hub 2' ARTWORK:

Not sure about it though. There are alot of crows around the place in this game and they appear in the artwork alot. This must be linked to the history of the island..Or, Like Larafan25 said, There is witchcraft or magic involved.
FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Quote:

A scarecrow wearing a helmet. (Japan)

Quote:

In Kojiki, the oldest surviving book in Japan (compiled in the year 712), a scarecrow known as Kuebiko appears as a deity who cannot walk, yet knows everything about the world.
Kuebiko
Kuebiko (久延毘古?) is the Shinto kami ("god; deity") of knowledge and agriculture, represented in Japanese mythology as a scarecrow who cannot walk but has comprehensive awareness.
Mythology

The (ca. 712) Kojiki ("Record of Ancient Matters") has the earliest reference to Kuebiko in the myth of Ōkuninushi ("Great Land Master"). When Ōkuninushi was at Cape Miho in Izumo, a small kami arrived in a boat. Nobody knew his name, but a toad suggested asking Kuebiko, who revealed the god was a scion of the goddess Kami-musubi (神産巣日) named Sukuna-bikona (少彦名神).

Could the scarecrows be linked to the depictions of beings on the walls in the caves?.

CREDIT TO LARAFAN25 for spotting these in the first place. ;)

Who cares? Blair Witch is the worst film ever made, yet had almost as much hype as Underworld. Go figure...

Blair Witch Project was great.

I'm not sure why we're talking about this movie, but... yeah. :pi:

Seriously though, I think it was a joke of a film. I wouldn't be surprised if TR9 steals ideas from it though, the game's story already sounds like it's ripping off popular ideas/themes from all over the place. Not that I begrudge Crystal for it, that's the norm these days. Why struggle to be original when you're in an industry built on latent plagiarism?

According to this site, it's based on a runic symbol used as a warning, or the stick men represent spirits being able to travel between earth and the spirit world. I have no idea how accurate that site is though.

larafan25 11-03-12 19:11

Interesting, the word spirit pops up again.

Also interesting that they mention hanging versions of those stick figures, as that's what appears to be in the concept art.

NRO. 11-03-12 19:12

It's because it wasn't acted. Actors were literally thrown into the woods with little food and the staff scaring them.

You mean you genuinely didn't know!?
I thought you were joking when you made your original post, there's unborn children who know what that symbol is, thanks to that stupid film.

larafan25 11-03-12 19:18

I've never seen the film.

Lol no. It was acted.

I actually thought it was pretty scary when I watched it but I was like 10.

Lukass 11-03-12 19:52

It was not acted. Nora was right.

He calls that a scarecrow? Seriously? :p

Stevo505 11-03-12 21:10

Sounds like this game has a lot to do with spirits and stuff. If it's like the Blair Witch project I'm going to **** my pants.

I can't even make out the one on the E3 gameplay screenshot tbh, and the one on the concept art is simply not a scarecrow. :p

Stevo505 11-03-12 21:18

It looks like it though.

You're "it's simply not a sacrecrow" has less backing it up than the fact that it is shaped like these twig warning signs which are hung places.

Sooo....

Mikky 11-03-12 21:20

^ Like I said... v

We're not talking about the Wizard of Oz, we're talking about a scarecrow. It's a humanoid warning sign....= scarecrow.

Then you're not using the word "scarecrow" correctly. Scarecrow literally means a figure that scares away crows, not humans.

Whoops I should watch my ass around here, I keep using words wrong.

I know communication and using words correctly can be key to understanding, but around here there is just some odd obsession with correct terminology.

I'm assuming it scares crows then, it scares crows and humans. So for now, until the word "Scarecrowman" is validated, I'll call it a scarecrow.

Rai 11-03-12 21:29

I can't make out whatever it is that Adrenaline has outlined in the E3 footage, but the concept art shows stick men used as it said in my previous post, a cult symbol to allow spirits to travel between earth and the spirit world. They're not called scarecrows.

But then, this is concept art, is there any indication they're in the game? Perhaps their Corn dolls or wicker men.

Ahh, true words of wisdom, but originality is such a hard thing to advocate nowadays, the real meaning behind has become distorted, allowing for different idea's put together to create something 'original' seems to be the norm nowadays. so how is originally created people may ask? That's a hard one haha lol.

Edit: People talking about that 'scarecrow', it looks like one but its more of a symbolic god more than anything else. why are we discussing what it looks like? we already sort of know what it is lol

Adrenaline 11-03-12 21:40

Just watch the gamespot gameplay in HD and go to 5:20 you'l see it.

Spong 11-03-12 21:46

Mikky's right you know, those Blair Witch-style stick figures aren't scarecrows :ohn:
