The only way we'd find keys or relics in sunken ships would be if we swam underneath, which we've said already can't be done.

Anja 18-03-12 19:52

they probably just removed swimming so Lara can't swim trough the ocean and get back to Britain.

You live in a world of impossibility, don't you.

There are ships, sticking out of the ocean, chances are if CD wanted us to, we could stand on them, because ships are solid. Not saying we can in this game, but the ships don't have to be underwater. And opening a hatch to explore flooded halls doesn't have to mean systematic swimming, we could wade through.

JsotoTRSaga 18-03-12 19:56

Then why did they put the ships there if we can't search for items inside them , If they are trying to do a Realistic experience they should have considered the possibility to get Underwater and get the Tools Inside the sunken boat because if i was in Lara's Situation and i needed to survive one of the first things i'd do would be searching for tools, Food and weapons and Sunken boats look promising when searching for useful items and Weapons. I think the boats are floating under the surface and we need to swim and get to the ships and there should be an entrance on the top of the Deck and the Deck of the Ships will not be Sinked Underwater so we would be able to get in and search. But if that isn't the case then idk why did CD added boats and try to make realism if it will not make much sense. I agree with Larafan.

I think realism only extends a certain distance in games and with specific decisions made.

Although CD's cry for realism, dynamic worlds, and freedom would imply the ability to reach the parts of the game world we can see.

I understand why swimming isn't in this game, I'm fine with it, there is going to be a lot of new mechanics. They can add it later on.

The reason CD would have added boats if we can't reach them is to portray the idea that so many ships have crashed, they're part of the scenery.

I was talking about JsotoTRSaga post in my post, and he said that sunken ships would be a good reason to go into the ocean. Sunken ships and ruined ships that are "sticking out of the ocean" are two different things. But you're right, it doesn't have to be sunken ships, but that's what JsotoTRSaga was talking about.

Trust me, I want to explore all these lovely ships and other places as much as you, but I'm just not as optimistic as most people here. I don't think we will be able to explore them, at least not as much as you're thinking.

Rai 18-03-12 20:01

We can't reach sunken ships, but we can wade to wrecked ships and explore the parts above water. 'Tis been said. I'm looking forward to doing that.

I've given up hope on anything new before E3 tbh.

O I C.

I just thought all ships in the water were sunken. :/

What do you mean? We've seen already that they're clearly not. Like you said, they're on the ocean surface, "sticking out of the water". :p If we can explore them, I think there will be a lot of limits, tbh, like only being able to explore certain ships. :/

JsotoTRSaga 18-03-12 20:13

That^ I was thinking of that right this moment. We could tell which ships to explore depending on how they look, If one of the ships for example looks Sinked and it's entirely Below the Water level and you could only see the roof then it may mean we can't explore that one But if there is another ship that looks Above The water not entirely sunken and you could see the Deck then you could search it. I think (If that is the case) I'm starting to Understand what Karl meant with: ''The Path won't scream at you'' :p

Well limits are to be expected.

I'm so Lost now... If Karl said there is a Building and there was oil coming out from it does it mean there will be an Oil refinery level in the TR Reboot? i thought it was a Deserted island full of Jungles, Swamps, Beaches,Tombs and plenty of Ruins and Sunken ships. That is Interesting....

Could be simply something like oil barrels from the Endurance. I don't know.

The island has tons of ships from different ages, as well as ancient Japanese monasteries. As well there is a radio tower on the island, so....I'm betting there is a WW2 influence on the island.

ahhh That is interesting i think i'm starting to Understand, Maybe those People that live in the Island are the Survivors of those Shipwrecks and became Evil because of an Artifact (Like in all TR Games) or perhaps they are Zombie Survivors of WW2. And since there is a Radio Tower clearly makes a Reference to War and which has been the most recent War in Japan? World War 2. ;)

Oil? Well, I can predict the game's ending. Lara will be rescued by Americans.

Yep, and a ship went missing off the coast of Japan of the United States Marine Corps, and those initials are on Lara's chest strap thingy.

 That is very Interesting i didn't Notice it but now that u say so, i was always wondering what where those initials. Maybe this story line will achieve to be better than Aod's.

Post #4411 is crap. Karl never said anything like that.

larafan25 18-03-12 20:43

^^Hopefully. :)

So the game has stealth, maybe it's a stealth mode, or maybe it's just contextual and pops up when the story says so (please no please).

Do you think this image is just Lara walking slowly, a contextual animation, or stealthy business? :pi:

I bet it's cutscene.

larafan25 18-03-12 20:52

Oh right, someone who went to the Germany meeting said a cutscene plays as she picks the stuff up.

Odd. A cutscene. Why not just let us get it? I guess that's when the wolf attacks.

The shot of Lara walking into the wolf's den to pickup the medikit and the transmitter.

The screenshot lf25 posted is from cutscene.

JsotoTRSaga 18-03-12 20:59

It is a Cutscene because there is another screenshot of that same area where she picks up the Item that is on the floor and her expressions and Motion in the screenshot look very Cinematic.

larafan25 18-03-12 21:00

^They can still do all of that outside of a cutscene though. :)

leglion 18-03-12 21:01

All i know about that area is that the fight with the wolf is a QTE.

You mean maybe they made Lara's expressions very Cinematic? I think they could do that instead of making too many Cutscenes i hope it isn't i certainly don't want it to be a entirely Cinematic game *Cough L.A. Noire *Cough with more cutscenes than Gameplay.

Maybe it's just like in TR1 where you pick up an item and the camera moves so it looks like a cutscene.

That would be great.

I feel dizzy. It's completely dead here :/

Spong 19-03-12 07:33

I hope the save system in TR9 is better than the rubbish one in LAU. I hope they bring back save crystals like TR1 on PSOne, that was proper hardcore, not saving at checkpoints every twenty seconds or letting people save whenever they want like massive girls. TR9 needs to get rid of the casual players with brutal and unforgiving saves, get some credibility back. Screwed something up? You have to play half an hour of the game again. That's the punishment, the penalty, that's why you're not supposed to die, you loser. I'm sick of deaths in TR having absolutely no consequence whatsoever

I couldn't agree more! But...from what I've seen in the demo, there's the same checkpoint system like in LAU. I don't want that too. I want to be "punished" when Lara die, but I don't see it happening. Not to mention I've read that the checkpoints are placed densely through the game.

Spong 19-03-12 07:52

If it was up to me I'd only allow saving at the basecamp(s). And they'd be manual, you'd have to choose to save, it wouldn't happen automatically when you walked in. Then you'd have to visit whatever new area, complete whatever objective, without saving at all. If you mess up...back to the basecamp you go.

The only concession I'd make is if there's secrets. Those would be automatically saved to a system file so you don't have to collect them again during that playthrough. But it should only save the fact you found the secret. If Crystal returned to the classic system of having secrets containing bonus pickups, then the items shouldn't be saved. If you die, the secret is still listed as found, but you won't have the items.

Lukass 19-03-12 07:57

^ Well, since the island is going to be really huge, saving just in basecamps...um...that could be a bit frustrating to travel long distances in case of death. But all in all, I agree. I just don't see it happening. Maybe it's going to be optional. Manual save/checkpoints.

Spong 19-03-12 08:17

Save restrictions should be covered in the difficulty setting. God knows completing Underworld on Master Survivalist was a joke, the game almost plays itself. My brutal brand of saving wouldn't suit everyone, but that's the point. It'll get rid of the lightweights who shouldn't be playing games, and it'll bring back a portion of the challenge. It's a win-win situation :tmb:

Let's hope that there are more than just one saving system.
