Hello there,
I'm about to finish a customized level and ready to send it to Prager for publishing. So, now I think that I will have enough time to join this competition :D
Feder suggested me to participate so I will give a try, count me in! ;)

I will use dxTre3d as editor and working for tr3 engine.
My theme is Antarctica (tr3) + Sleeping with the fishes ( tr3 gold ) combined with some resources from tr2 engine.

DroneSpencer 18-08-19 12:08

So, Also I can finally show you some pictures of my work...

The timer will not be shown in-game (forgot to turn him off)

Because I use TR2 textures so I use only shades of white lights.

I know I won't win but I hope you like it.

PhryneCroft 18-08-19 14:02

Would anyone want to test my CaC level? Just write me a PM if you are interested. :)

dcw123 18-08-19 19:26

Lara : "Hmm.. I wonder what those channels are used for?"

Intro to a small dynamic puzzle which will trigger certain events as Lara makes her way back up to the Library's higher floors.

https://i.imgur.com/PEU55LH.jpg

Featuring some 'new' textures - room lacks any real lighting at the moment, but I wanted to show it off regardless

EDIT: Noticed a major game breaking design flaw in my level and I really don't wanna change rooms around.
Basically I showed off a room with two floors and a balcony. Turns out, if Lara doesn't open the ground floor doors and goes to the first floor balcony, she can jump off and fall down - becoming trapped in the room with no way out (since she cannot open double doors from both sides)

I thought about activating a flipmap to turn the doors 180 so Lara could exit, but this would mess up if Lara HAD opened them earlier...
Then I was tempted to make a fake paper thin wall to hide the balcony off, but I have another idea. I'm gonna make a static broken version of the double doors - so Lara can enter/exit from both sides - while also keeping with the theme of the room (instead of having no door at all which would look odd being the only one out of 6 with no door)

There we go - much better..

Getting them TR4 Beta vibes already, nicely done

Reggie 18-08-19 22:24

Rebuilt a large area of the level the last few days. Result of texturing and lighting this evening:

Deathly Karma 18-08-19 22:37

Very nice Reggie! Everyone's levels are looking really good! :D

There are little things to fix, but, tell me: are the dark screenshots too much dark?
Because I have an old graphic tablet with monitor instead of a regular monitor and it's way more dark than normal. When I play custom levels I use a big amount of flares indeed. :D Here I see them too much dark. So yes tell me in your monitor...

Baslakor 19-08-19 15:06

Love your decision to go for Russian level. Very original choice!

I would not need any flares on my laptop for those screenshots.

dcw123 19-08-19 16:38

Lovely screenshots there - Not many snow levels in TR so its nice to see

A WIP screenshot here - tried to give the room a different look by combining it with some Poseidon textures - think it suits quite well considering most of the textures were just recoloured for Lost Library

A giant Cistern full of water - I wonder if this could help Lara progress somehow :)

https://i.imgur.com/uE27QLQ.jpg

Featuring yet more new texture edits to make the brick look all water damaged and dirty around the surface - I originally wanted the water darker and really green to match, but it was far too dark - so opted for this .. may change it later on IDK, need to test in game first

I'm loving that Cistern room - and the subtle texture edits your making for your level. There's some Greek/Ptolemaic textures in many levels that would look good in the Library.:D

I quite like it, though I think the light could use a bit more contrast. Try to brighten the lava, while making the rest of the room a bit darker. Even though you mimic the TR2 style, consider a SLIGHT orange tone for the lava!

About the last screenshot, I would make the top of those jade blocks jade as well instead of grey. :)

dinne 19-08-19 20:30

Thanks, so yes I've surely to ask a monitor to my friends for testing purposes only :P I need that some areas or details stay hidden in the darkness if meant to be! :D
Thank you.

Baslakor 19-08-19 20:53

Some darkness really adds to the atmosphere, but there will always be people complaining it's too dark or not enough flares. Unless your beta-testers had the same issues, I wouldn't play too much attention to them. 🙂

LOTRKingluis 19-08-19 21:27

Having in consideration the amount of trle's being made. what about making a youtube video on the date we release all levels, with some epic orchestral music showing the various levels? :D

sackboy123 19-08-19 21:32

Loving the Russia level, TR5 is always a classic I love replaying so I'm going to love the nostalgia there

Texturing and lighting are obviously WIP ;)

Make sure you play my One Room Challenge though, since both levels are from the same adventure ;) (my CaC entry is the ORC's sequel)

sackboy123 20-08-19 22:51

Oooofff, I'll keep that in mind ;)

Howaito 21-08-19 00:53

Hiiiii just posting to say it would be lovely to participate in the competition :) haven’t built a level in a little while (only 10 years) but with this new fangled tomb editor out (and more free time yay) it seems a shame not to do it.
The theme is TR1 Peru with objects from other tomb raiders when necessary.
Some questions that maybe I missed in the thread,
Are the new features of tomb editor permitted such as diagonal walls? And all the new features of trng such as teleportation? If the theme is Tr1 for example, are triangular polygons even allowed? The original used quadpolygons only.. (sorry if these have been asked) Thank u and good luck all. Will post screenies soon...

SrDanielPonces 21-08-19 01:16

All of these are allowd, the main rule is to make it feel like a classic, not to be entirely :)

Add your own touches to it so it has its own identity :)

DaroRaider 21-08-19 12:09

Hello, :wve:
I want someone to clarify the following ... should we do a level that recreates the classic feeling of a particular level? Or can we recreate several scenarios of several of the classic levels? I do not know .. an example .. recreate the cold atmosphere of the Antarctic tr3 .. on the context of the Antarctic recreate the sunken ship of Maria Doria of tr2 and make use of baddies of tr1?

It can? :ponder:
It is not clear to me at all ...

Sorry, if this was clarified before, no time to read every message and my english is not good.. :o

good luck!

TR-Freak 21-08-19 12:57

you can mix everything from the classics

I like how the previous explores/skeletons have been crushed by large blocks. It's a nice attention to detail.;)

AgentXP 21-08-19 16:13

@Howaito all of those things are allowed :)

@DaroRaider you can use any combo of classic stuff that you want :)

I made a timelapse build video of part of my level if people are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AgLqyGDgC0&t=439s

Teone 21-08-19 17:01

Great! God only knows how I'd like to be able to use the editor like you all builders!
So, AgentXP, it's time to remove that "maybe" beside your name at page 1
Not yet? :)

^ Just shows the amazing step forward T.E is.
I always struggled 'visualising' connecting rooms or large areas - or how the entire level looked in 3D (outside of 2D view)

The fact you can see it all real time and make changes on the fly - so awesome
It's definitely given me a boost for TRLE again.. and made my designing easier

I just need to figure out the finer details, but thats just coz I've been used to the old editor for SO long now - since 2000 - without actually building anything substantial LOL

Baslakor 21-08-19 23:54

Today's progress. Almost finished (feedback welcome)

https://i.imgur.com/Ck0TQLc.png

SrDanielPonces 22-08-19 04:25

Just to tell people that I've had to split my level in two.
I'm literally out of space on my 2D map and the level is really on its limits. I can't really add more space to the 40 fathoms area + the big ocean I want to add at the end.

https://i.imgur.com/ED9ztX5.png

I also can't use flipmaps because I've reached the limit, and I'd need them if I kept on the same level (With a new level, I can already change the geometry).
Splitting the level will also give me the benefit of having all camera sequences available (I've used all of them :ton:).

Yeah almost gave up on Tomb Editor as my body wouldn’t permit the change from TRLE but now I’ve been practicing it really is the next step and would recommend everybody to upgrade to it..
