So just to clearify, if you get the game before the release date and you pay the normal price on a legitimate copy, it won't be illegal right? And is sharing that content considered illegal?

In the sense that CD will still benefit from the sale yes, but any pre March 5th sale is still illegal not to mention plain not fair :p

Phlip 24-02-13 17:23

I hope my copy comes March 4th. Apparently pre-ordering from GAME sometimes gets you the copy a day early, or on the exact release day.

YvesSL 24-02-13 17:25

Oh well... at least it happened close to the release date. I hope mine comes monday 4th as well! I have the Resident Evil 6 dlc to keep me busy til TR.

MuhaBagci 24-02-13 17:27

I'm not sure if it's legal. I remember my friend from Gamestop used to tell me to not play the game online before it officially came out. lols So I think in some way it's illegal to play it a few days before the game oficially came out.

Let's just hope you haven't ordered it from the same place you ordered AC3. How many days late was that? >_<

Stores aren't meant to sell the game before release, but there's nothing illegal about it and there's nothing illegal about buying & playing a genuine copy before release. Playing online though before the game's official release date could see you get in trouble with Sony or MS.

You're right. :o

Sadly there is no way to stop this. :( I remember getting my UC3 copy 3 days earlier. At least it's better than pirating.

Dark_Messiah 24-02-13 17:28

If you get the LEGAL game sold before release.. its absolutly fine. At least as a customer. The only one "breaking a rule" is the guy that sells it to you. Nothing illegal for you there you can go home and play w/o having to worry about anything because after all you have got a legal copy of the game

Actually... She is not. Meagan is the Community and Public Relations gurl from Crystal Dynamics. She is no Square Enix representative..

Also - I'll agree to that one forum. Sending her links to that does nothing. I already found Tomb Raider on 5 different (german) websites to download and there are probably hundreds more.

Publishers, nor Game Devs can't do anything about piracy or leaked games on consoles. Thinking that they could press a button and wipe Tomb Raider from the entire Internet is a bit too much :p

The only game that'll 100% not leak before release is the Steam Version of the game.

Whaaa- Amazon is late? In the UK right?

Thank god I've got everything I ordered from Amazon here in Germany in time (Uncharted 3 pre-order arrived a week early lol)

Whoops sorry messed up, I know she's from CD :p

Can't they contact the host where the game is uploaded? A lot of files are removed from host pages because of that. That's why I asked in the first place anyways :p

UK Amazon have been late by a few days twice for me, yeah. I can't remember whether it comes down to paying more to get it on release day or what.

I dont think a day matters? Alot of online retailers try to send the copies so they arrive on the release date. In some (lucky) cases you recieve the game a day or two early. It's not their fault that the shipping is faster than predicted at times.

Waiting for DmC isn't a bad thing :pi:

If you're talking about the torrent sites, they don't host the actual files that make up the game, that's how they get around copyright law. Sure, SquEnix could get the torrent files removed, but they can't touch the illegal copies themselves because they're not hosted anywhere.

Places like Amazon send out games early (usually a day or two) because they have to take into account that the shipping/post might cause problems along the way.

Phlip 24-02-13 17:36

^Clearly not as early as GAME.

I mean websites like Mega.com or Mediafire. Those do host the game files.

If anyone is silly enough to upload to a site like that, then yes, SquEnix can have the files removed easily. Torrents though, they're pretty much impossible to eradicate once they've spread, and that's what the vast majority use nowadays.

Yeah. They can get them removed there fairly easily. But after all - someone else would reupload them in the same hour and the whole thing would start again

It's the savest possible way. I'd say "If anyone is silly enough to download from P2P torrents" actually because they are super unsafe - in comparison to OCHs like Rapidshare etc

And that's what I reported, which proves me not stupid  Eat that, random forums

It much better than pirating :) If you recieve the game early through official channels i.e a vendor who has purchased copies from SE and sells you the game early you have still paid your money and as a consumer are not doing anything wrong. The fault lies with the vendor who shouldn't be selling the game before the designated date... it's a whole different kind of illegal :p

yaron 24-02-13 17:42

So I am guessin this won't happen: :(

Downloading files via torrents is no more or less unsafe than downloading anything from RS or any other file host. It's the files themselves that can contain the viruses, not the method by which you download them.

I am not talking about viruses, I am talking about the ways of tracking people down that did that.

One can easily track everyone that downloaded a torrent - ever. But its almost impossible if you download it "the safe way" using OCHs that only save the IP for a week or so.

Very well. I think we should accept that this is how her hair's gonna be, at least for now. Maybe in future sequels, on next-gen, it'll look better. But for now, such detailed hair as the ones you propose are simply too taxing on current-generation consoles :o
