I always just run through the levels and when it's time to jump, I press and hold jump (a habit) and I don't remember that I ever failed a jump in Anniversary that way. Unless I was swinging on a rope or with the grapple, that required you to be within a certain distance from the ledge.
Quote:
Exactly, how would that work without a grid system?? Really? Pulling her back? Weird, I'd like to see that. :p |
I just press jump once, let go instantly, and she flies to the ledge, and it seems to me that not every jump I made was the same distance, I recall some times jumping away from a ledge a great distance and being drawn to ledges which looked too far away too reach.
Not that it even matters, I just hope it's not like that in the reboot. I think it will have 0 magnetism. |
Yeah, that's how that game works. I think there is one place where you really need to hold the jump button (somewhere in one of those pool areas in Vilcabamba, it's quite notorious).
I think it will have magnetism. :-)) However, no bets this time. :vlol: |

^That's not what I'm saying.

Yeah, the room where you're on the ledge and jump back to that outcrop, she doesn't even make the ledge grabbing animation until last minute, but I never hold the jump button. :pi: Anyways, we can just hope, and no bets. :mis: |

This just in, you all know that new high-pitched scream Lara does on the spike in the Crossroads trailer? That scream originally played when she was sliding down the fissure and smashes through some twigs and crap.
Sounds much better in the original scene where she's sliding, than being put when she falls on the spike IMO. :/ |

Clipping is both, from what I've understood.

Well, it's nearly 4 am here, and I don't know why I'm still here. Must be the heat. Good night guys. |
I didn't want to make this into a new thread, but there is this new(?) preview of Tomb Raider that was written 11 hours ago.
The writer seems to be in our kind of boat where we don't like QTE's from the very first few demos that she saw, but he was finally amazed by the deer demo and actually liked the QTE's there. He also mentions how the platforming is like uncharted, but "it's actually good." And I understand why he said it looked like Uncharted since the deer demo didn't have much to traverse really. I didn't read all of it, there might be spoilers for whoever didn't watch any of the demos and stuff, but here ya go anyway. Sorry if it was already posted http://www.gaminglives.com/2012/07/0...-e3-preview-2/ |

Wow, that text is quite fantastic, I loved what the author said.
|
thanks for the link :)
can anybody please link me to the trailer ( i forgot which was it ) where lara recieves the gun in the burning village ? :o thanks  |
The whole 'platforming is like uncharted' remark annoys me regardless of how much she has tried to alleviate the remark with 'except it's good'. The platforming looks like Legend, which was around for a good two years before Uncharted. But, of course the Uncharted reference is now a compulsory remark in any Tomb Raider document.
|
I'm frightened by that comparison.
Uncharted's platforming is really linear. |
Perhaps that's what the writer means. It's similar to Uncharted in that you have to grab ledges and jump around (which of course was ripped straight from tomb raider legend) but it's not as linear and it's less forced, so the platforming is actually more fun and feels great.
I mean we can balance and jump on ledges like Uncharted, which is why the writer made that comparison, but from I can see the platforming is already more complex than Uncharted. Especially with those big hub spaces. Uncharted however, is very very linear binary ledge hopping. There's only one way. And with this game the only ledges that I've seen are on that plane that we have to jump on to get to the other side of the cliff. The rest has been running around in spaces, ladders, and jumping platform to platform, balancing, and of course those flags we can swing on. |
You're welcome guys! :D
and i think the comparison was definitely just made without seeing the big hubs, so i think it's safe to say that the comparison wasn't on the whole of the game. It's nice to hear that it's better than uncharted's platforming :p |
One thing about it, having a setting such as this island that seems to attract airplanes and ships, they have a lot of good excuses to have random platforming that actually makes sense as apposed to having random ledges sticking out of a cliff face. :p
|
Hopefully CD realized that as well :pi:
:p |
Considering I've only seen ledges on an airplane, and in screenshots she's jumping towards planes and other pieces of debris, I think they certainly have. :tmb:

I just wanna see hubs. Oh man. And proper tombs.
I really hope those hubs are as big as they say they are. I could just die. |
Does anyone alse has the feeling that when you actually play the game for the first time and you reach a huge hub (if there is any) you won't know from which point you should start exploring?
|
I WANT THAT FEELING SO BADLY! lol
I really hope that I have that feeling :p |
Quote:
Honestly that isn't so bad, because those angles were in the original Tomb Raiders, and we can apparently carve our own path, which is cool. So we won't know how to get there, just where to go. But they still bother me for some reason. I guess I just don't see the point in showing it twice, especially with the survival instinct option. |
I think you'll enter a hub and a cutscene will play once Lara goes near the base camp, then you get a mission and it tells you what to do.
lolol |
"FOLLOW DR. WHITMAN"
No ****, Lara. I'll just ignore him through this linear set of stairs. |
I wasn't here for about 3 days... did I miss anything? D:

After reading that article from a few pages back, the writer mentions some QTE's that aren't actually QTE's, but just button prompts. Similar to Underworld or Anniversary. When Lara loses her grip you have to press a button to make sure she doesn't fall.
I think some people are thinking that some events are QTE's, when they really aren't. At least in my opinion. |
I noticed that in the gameplay videos. It's the same as the hand, triangle, Y icon in the previous games, just with cinematic camera angles.
|
I think they classify them as Quick Time Events is because you have to be quick under a timed event :p. I think that makes sense lol
|
True, but not in the context most people refer to QTEs :vlol:
|
Quote:

Yeah i know that its like cutscene, but I understand why other people think of them as those button prompts during gameplay, I mean the name QTE lends itself to that assumption :p
