Also, I don't understand why they can't reveal the box art now  He said no date set in stone yet. Why they need a date? Just bloody show it to the fans, for God sake! All the big games have already revealed their box arts, but TR fans have to wait again. It's hard to be a TR fan.

As it will be a new render on the cover, they wont just give it to us without any bigger promo. So far they milked all the three renders we have to their limits. And as no new media coming soon, I'm almost sure no box art until the next wave starts.

Karl Stewart: The funny thing is that I’ve read comments from fans saying we’ve shown too much!
Why do I get the sense that sentence was cut short two words early? Shouldn't there be an "about Lara" at the end? Even the fans are getting sick of hearing about her.

It’s a fine line – trying to give a solid grasp of what the game has to offer...
Which you haven't even come close to doing...unless TR9 is a miserable, linear explosion-fest of a game.

...Until now the campaign has focused on Lara herself, and building her into a survivor.
No **** Sherlock. Anyone would be forgiven for thinking the game is nothing but that, that it's not a Tomb Raider at all. It's just the same old empowerment story that Hollywood has told hundreds of times over.

You’ll be treated to content highlighting those aspects as we move toward March 5.
The word 'treated' annoys me. Do you genuinely think you're doing us all a massive favour, Mr Stewart? That we should be grateful for the measly scraps you throw us from the table? You're expecting me to pay upward of £40 for this product when it hits the shelves, nothing you show us is a 'treat', it's you attempting to justify why I should spend that money. And to be honest, so far, you haven't been doing a great job convincing me.

We as fans need to calm down. They know what they need to do and yes they do need to talk about lara and repeat things to the hundreds of different magazines and websites because not everyone visits or reads or watches the same thing so they need to let it be known what they're trying to convey to the masses of people. They need to go on about her in every interview because when the game comes out and some mainstream idiot who hasn't played a Tomb Raider game but knows about lara wonders (for example) why this lara isn't wearing a green tank top anymore and doesn't bother reasearching why that is, at least they'll be more of a chance he would have seen or heard about why that is.

We keep going on like they're bad developers even though all 4 games they've made have met good to very good reviews from critics. Its not just the fans they need to think about. Think of the bigger picture

But I'm super glad to hear that the box art will have a new image on it. Looking forward to that.

Thank you! This!

I think some people here fail to understand that not everyone is a huge TR fan who keeps up with each and every media detail of TR's campaign. Of course it's going to get repetitive if one does that! :p

I agree and disagree. They need to introduce Lara as the main character, indeed, but they also need to introduce the game itself with all the mechanics. We haven't seen a bit of traversing, exploring and climbing. They're not selling Lara Croft. They're selling a game.

Tonyrobinson 18-09-12 17:55

I agree more with the above. The are showing and promoting this game too much like a movie. :o

I said "Even the fans are getting sick of hearing about her". I wasn't suggesting that we were the first to start complaining because we've sat here and poured over every last morsel of news. I was implying quite the opposite in fact. It's only recently that people here have started to sway towards the 'getting bored with Lara' stance, but I've seen similar comments on other non-TR forums long before people here started to tire of it. If I was Crystal, I'd be more concerned about the target audience (non-TR players) getting bored than us lot who eat, sleep & **** Tomb Raider.

Like Tony said, so far, it's more like they're pitching a film. Which would be great if it was a film.

and hence, according to this, combat is ("at this time") the most important gameplay element in TR2013. .___.

Why not leave Lara's background story for the player to discover? Give us footage of the actual GAME because that's what most people are interested in ATM. People mainly buy games for the gameplay...don't they?

Fantastic interview! Thank you for posting. Just by reading this, you can tell just what a smart and deep person she really is. With someone like her writing the story for TR, there's really nothing to be worried about. :D

And it was nice to read her on her opinions on the game developer/writer relationship. I never knew it was so broken. D: But she says it's been improving throughout the years and hopefully it wasn't anything like she described in the development for TR.

Question: There is a huge debate and angry comment around the representation of women in games and comic books and the way in which they can often be objectified and trivialised. What do you think of the representation of women in games?

Answer: As a whole, it’s not great. But then neither is the representation of non-white characters, or gay characters or, in fact, any character who isn’t white, male, mid-20s and gravelly voiced. The games industry has a lot of work to do as far as character diversity and representation is concerned.
Glad she pointed this out.
It was a nice read.

I've only just finished reading it. It was a good incite into writing for games. Nothing new on Tomb Raider, if that's what you were thinking, Lukass.

There is no walki-talki (whatever they're called) where it usually is, so it may be a glitch or walki-talki physics? :p

They did say that each and every object that was a part of Lara would have its own physics right after E3, but they also said that they hadn't implemented that feature yet, because they were still working out bugs or something. :pi:

The walkie-talkie shouldn't move if it's hooked on her belt. The only thing that should have physics is the pendant and her fringe. I don't see any other thing moving on her. Her pants are tight, so is her sweat-shirt. Well, I hope that all objects, characters and objects on characters have physics, not just things that are part of Lara.
