Roth is the left one, thinking something. His full name is Conrad Roth and he is a father figure to Lara, also he is the captain of the Endurance.

Sam is the girl who loves to eat Orange. She is held captive and Lara's mission is so save her from Father Mathias and collect some orange for her. Collecting part is not true though. :p

The guy on the left is Roth. No idea who anyone else is.

Sam is one of Lara's crew mates on the Endurance who gets shipwrecked with a few others on the island. She's evil and can't be trusted.

The old guy is Conrad Roth, Lara's new mentor, no idea about the other one.
There are actually quite a few other survivors and each one of them seem to play a role in the story somehow. Sam is one of them and people here love her because she had a wonky eye in the Crossroads-trailer.

Yes, Mathias is the guy holding the knife :) The Solarii are the bad guys on the Island who have taken up the some of the old mythology of the Island and worship Queen Himiko, the sun goddess, hence, the 'Solarii'.

I wonder if the Solarii are trying to start some sort of cult, worshipping this sun goddess Himiko.

Everything from the lighting to the textures looks like it was edited in photoshop. We've seen this segment of gameplay on HD video, and it does NOT look that good.

I'm watching the footage from that area. It looks like all they did to the screen shot was upped the brightness. I don't see any difference in textures.
