I can see why the questionnaire is only over at the Eidos board, it's a clear attempt to get more people joining. But it's stupid not to at least duplicate it at other boards as well, especially ones that are clearly more popular.

But if you want to chew over the finer points feel free to PM me so we don't derail this thread. I'm happy to chat to you about it, you were always more approachable than your predecessors. |

As for your earlier remark of "it's a clear attempt to get more people joining" - I am indeed working on getting the official forums back on the map. They have been neglected for some time and I intend to change that with initiatives like these. Nothing secretive about it, though; I've very up front about that right from the start. Quote:
Seriously, though, I'll happily take this into PM if that is what is desired. I may not respond for some days sometimes, due to my busy schedule, but I always do :) |

Good luck with whatever your plans are though, I hope they pan out. It all amounts to more interest in the series and that's what counts. Quote:

It's only right that the official site hosts official dev Q&As, but I still think it makes more sense to offer a choice as well. My apologies if I'm wrong in this assumption, but so far as I know you're just the Admin at the Eidos board, why would it be on your shoulders to circulate the info and collate questions if they were submitted elsewhere? Surely that's Meagan's job as Crystal's Community Manager (seeing as it's Crystal who the questions would be fired at)? But regardless of who's responsibility it actually is, the logic still stands that more choice gives the opportunity for more feedback, more communication and a wider interest. So, what about a compromise? Why not allow people to submit questions from wherever, but host the answers at the Eidos board? You dodged a bullet before by avoiding what I said about Phlip & I (which is fair enough, you don't want to get involved in past messes you weren't involved in), but a compromise like this would render that particular problem completely irrelevant. As for the answers being hosted at the Eidos board alone, well, the results would be posted here within minutes of them appearing, such is the rabid vigilance & diligence of the members at TRF. Personally, I think having the Q&A (or anything like that) hosted wholesale at the Eidos board alone is somewhat short-sighted and, in certain cases, a little unfair. That's meant as no offence to you as Admin at the Eidos board, but I'd simply be lying if I said anything else. Quote:

Wow, Dribber has 10 posts on TRF and he is here for 11 years. Posts Per Day: 0.00 Posts Per Year: 0.10 :p |

Isn't that the guy who is a mod on the official Eidos forums?

Actually, it's those kinds of comments that would discourage me from posting here.
For the record, I am a member in many unofficial fan forums, both with and without moderator/admin capabilities. The determining factor of me posting somewhere depends on the atmosphere of a community. If it's overall negative, I leave. If it's overall positive, I stick around. Simple. Quote:
(I use quotation marks because I actually did post in here already in the past, but under a different account. Only recently I discovered (after fellow mod Titak pointing out a TRF thread to me) that I actually had made my usual "Driber" account here aeons ago, which I completely forgot about. I couldn't log in anymore as I didn't remember my password after 10 years :p and also because the email address I used to sign up here was long gone. I contacted Justin to recover my lost account, and so here I am, appearing to be a new member, hehe) --- @Spong: I see you're still confused about what I meant RE who's decision it is of what to post where. Better take this convo into PM after all; I don't think a public board is the place to be discussing into great detail about the roles of admins, Eidos, CD, Meagan, etc. For the record, though; everyone (except banned members, but that is not really my fault) are welcome to get their questions in the Q&A sessions on the official forum if they have burning questions which they would like to see answered :) It's not a questionnaire, though, as was speculated earlier. Just an initiative coming from Meagan and myself for fans to get in touch with the devs, which we happen to be facilitating on the official forums, as that is the proper place for it in my opinion. If people don't like the Q&A sessions or people have something against the official forums, they don't have to participate. I believe the vast majority of fans are happy that they get a chance like this, though. After all, CD is under no obligation to do this in the first place. And from experience I can say that not many game studios go this extra mile. --- On a final (general) note; I am sensing a lot of bad blood between this and the official forum. I don't know into detail what exactly happened in the past, nor am I interested in carrying on old grudges which I have not been involved in, in the first place. I'll be happy to lend a listening ear to grievances of any member of any forum, but in private. |
^I love you.

I wonder if they'll ever make an official dedicated www.tombraider.com/forums instead of just using Eidos Forums.

I've always wondered how it works though when it comes to people searching for specific game forums. If someone Googles a game looking for a forum, logically they use the game's name and not the publisher. Sure, the publisher's board will be in the search, but dedicated sites (if there are any and they're not stupidly named) will most likely appear above them. Quote:
