I love how lush this is! :D Hmm, maybe that palm isn't needed there, in cave like that, it's a bit small space for it. :ponder:
I'd also add more transitions to make it consistent, like in the right bottom corner for example, on the sand to connect it to the rock.

Talking a bit off topic, THANK GOD and Core Design for TR Level Editor. It's the best gift that any TR fan could have!

I feel the series are far from its roots now after the 2013 reboot... and I also think Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix are disrespectful (with the series and its fans).

TR Level Editor will make sure that our original and classic Lara will ALWAYS live.

I'm one of the few (at least here in TRFORUMS) that love Tomb Raider Chronicles.

Always wanted to build a level using the iconic opera dress.
Can't help with it :o

Ugh that dress! I love it so much. Itís always so cool seeing how people can recreate the classic feeling in these levels. If I ever do take a crack at level building, these are goals. :D

Ahh, keep going! Building TR levels are fun and with practice we can become very experient builders!

I love that dress too!
Always wanted to play with it in Rome xD

I subscribed this forum looking forward to vote the CaC competition, but now I'm a little worried. 38 builders listed at page 1. Assuming all of them will finish their work in time, the voting thread should stay opened at least for one year.
I'm worried but glad. Looking your screens I already imagined all the fun that will be. :jmp:

JMN 23-08-19 09:56

I wish the deadline was extended by a month. Previous CaC was end of November. :mis:

OMG :yik:
25 minutes of video recorded at that speed making the setting from scratch !!
That should equal 2 hours of pure hard work and sustained with the editor. You -stamina- is really very good! ;)

dcw123 23-08-19 16:50

Starting to realise how restricting some level sets can be.
Only so many textures and very few objects..
Most of the rooms end up looking the same.

Starting to run out of steam, so to speak..
Think I'm about near the end of my level - but I'm not really satisfied with it.
To late to pick something else now so.. I'll see how it goes but not sure I'll get raving reviews for it

Titak 23-08-19 18:21

You can mix textures though.
They don't have to be from one particular level.
Same for the objects. :D

Ahh yes I realise that Titak.
Obviously I wanted the level to stick to the theme.. so I can only really add things that fit - like the Catacombs/Poseidon areas.. anything else would look out of place IMO

I'll have another look at the WADS and TGAs and see if I can make some variations of rooms this way.
The way it is now.. its either all brick (top areas) or all sandy bricks (the lower basement areas) like TR4s original levels.

Not that this is bad - the level is fine persay

SrDanielPonces 23-08-19 19:52

Should I use my modified TR2 metal or TR3's Sleeping with the fishes?
Which one looks better?

There is my Tittle for my entry :)

By the way Daniel, I prefer TR2 :) but TR3 looks good also :)

sackboy123 23-08-19 20:54

If you want more of a TR2 feel then I say stick with the TR2 ones, but if not then go with the TR3 ones

Are there any textures in TRC Rome that might fit?:o The colosseum level has some underground textures that could look good for lower basement areas. The upper levels were yellowish like the Lost Library so something there might fit too. Some objects like a bronze pot and statue busts might work too.

The Tomb of Semerkhet has some Ptolemaic style textures as far as I can make out - mostly the brick with a portrait of some Greek looking guy. There's also the red/blue marble textures.:)

Lastly some of the lost Library Textures are Minoan in origin - so you could make some rooms inspired by Knossos.

And don't forget the dolphin fresco from TR1 - that's from Knossos too - but it might be too low resolution

TR2 textures, more iconic with the rest... I'd expect the TR2 orange ones in this environment... Modified or not...

Thanks - so I've now added some of the catacomb and some pieces from Semerket stuff in there too..
Some pillars for variety, some different old stone textures, older bricks, the sarcophagus to hide pickups in :)

Took me quite some time to find the differences, so I don't think it really matters. Personally (after eventually finding them) I have a slight preference for left.

Howaito 24-08-19 21:20

eeensy weensy question:

An Egyptian TGA file for TR1 came also with textures for medikit sprites, laras face etc... are they permitted to use inlevel for those more surreal type levels? theyre technically original textures--- just not usually applied to the walls.... so can object textures be applied to geometry? thank youuu

SrDanielPonces 24-08-19 21:42

Thank you guys for the suggestions :tmb:

@Howaito

Those medipacks textures etc are not part of those game's geometry textures, it's just there because of ripping flaws reasons.

Those are object textures.

Nevertheless, I am using objects as room geometry (using tomb editor, but this can also be achieved with meta2tr) and I don't see any problem with it. The only advantage is that it reacts better to lighting, so it doesn't interfer with the whole classic thing.

Howaito 24-08-19 23:27

heres a screenie from my level. hope u like it :)

To quote the rules:

"A combination of any textures from the first five TRís is allowed"

Seems you've found a loophole here. ;)

Ahahah

Well I think that the rule in question has the goal of keeping the Classic feeling intact, so I guess that this case is up to you, if you can keep that feeling...

Why hasn't this question been answered if I may ask?

Teone 25-08-19 23:12

Well, formally it was not a question but a wish. :)
If I can interpret moderators thougth, I guess it's early to decide.
September and October are long and hard months. Maybe 30 builders will give up and there will be no problem. :cen: (don't hit me please, I'm joking :D )

disapearing-boy 25-08-19 23:54

I've really fallen behind building:o so here we go -this area was inspired by TR1/TRAE.

Old version : https://i.imgur.com/oaqafv4.jpg

A bit of a mishmash of textures from a few levels blended together. I need some dirt on the floor/ceiling - and maybe something for the walls. Maybe a damaged section in the corner...:)

Edit - I adjusted the lighting, new version.

Baslakor 26-08-19 06:54

That's funny! I know exactly what place that is because I've used that room in my level as well. :D

Excellent textures and lightning though!

I would LOVE if it was extended to november. I'm scared I don't finish this on time :(

Howaito 26-08-19 20:11

a trip to the scary place...

Lovely lighting disapearing-boy and Baslakor, I like how your two versions have similar architecture but completely different atmospheres.

CheshireBitch 27-08-19 09:00

Finaly I got back to it and instead of huge outdoor places from south pacific, I made a short rome themed level ! It's far from perfect but it's a nice 20 minutes level I guess lol.

I just has an issue, the sfx are all messed up I don't know how it happened. For exemple when Lara picks up something it makes the noise of a pushable, and a lot of other things like that. A lot of sfx are missing too (mainly from Lara's animations) I have a hard time founding a link to something that would help me fix it easily, does anyone know something ? Thanks :)

Baslakor 27-08-19 12:14

Open your wad in Wadtools together with a Wad where you know all the sounds are working. Just scroll down and copy all the sounds of the working wad into your own. This should solve (most) sound issues. :)

showcase and questions

Hi, finally I get some time for this.

There is the first minute of my level, I hope you enjoy it, also read a description of the video, thanks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blOWfO5C0a8

Now for my questions to you.

I missing those sounds:
- shooting from pistols, uzis, six-shooter
- scream when Lara fall
- healing sound

for now, this is all I found, thanks for the answer.

SrDanielPonces 27-08-19 22:03
