To me, ''Classic'' means using original Core WADS and nothing HD.

Unless we all just mean classic 'feeling' - in which case I may do a HD version of the level I was intending to make

I believe that's what makes a level feel like it belongs to the classics. Upgrading looks just takes away the feeling of 'classic' imo.
Although, classic gameplay could use a facelift. :rolleyes:

Personally not a fan. Don't take it the wrong way Sampiza, you're screenshots are quite nice, but they don't feel 'classic' or invoke any feelings of nostalgia to me (mainly duo to the outfit).

This is of course my opinion, and you are within the rules of this competition.

Gonna edit Lara's TR4 outfit to look more like the Alpha version - where her top looks more like TR2/3 instead of the low cut V.
I'm also adding the holster straps back in :D
Complete with beta SFX, objects..

Quite interesting, while looking through old screenshots, one room in particular got revised like 3 times. Once which we see in the demo (skeletons and spike pits), a version with the cog and a harpy, and the final room where Lara fights the Gem Horseman

Thanks. Yeh I always love these type of competitions.. and just what fans can come up with. Shows the classic TRs really are still magical even after all there years.
And I realised yesterday that TR4 is 20 years old! OMG it made me feel old ha
I remember playing ths PSX 'beta' demo back in the day - so I felt I needed to recreate it.

Yeh I struggle more with coming up with level design concepts but I tend to just dive straight into the editor with no designs or drawings.. maybe I need to sketch ideas more.
I always save a ton of reference pics from the theme I am doing (so in this case I saved tons of TR4 pics of this level to get the theme right)

I normally just end up staring at the piece of paper and nothing comes to mind... So I might just build randomly as I go without any real plan and see where it takes me LOL

Coming along nicely - few hickups here and there thanks to Wadmerger breaking on me several times for no good reason other than to be a hindrance.
I also noticed a lot of changes to even the ''finalised'' rooms which appeared in TR4's Lost Library..
Given me some nice ideas which I'll showcase soon

Looking forward to this one! RX-is one of my favorite TR3 levels. It had a lot of flaws (unpredictable minecarts) that stopped it from reaching full potential, but the whole level is just one big homage to The Thing.

I'd love to see human troops battling mutants and monsters as you delve deeper and deeper into the mines, trying to find the source of the corruption...

I'm also adding some extra textures into my level - mainly to fix 'mistakes' or oversights Core made back in the day.
Mainly to get rid of mirrored textures..

One example would be the marble flooring with the edges along the walls. Core only made one texture for this, then either rotated or flipped them over.. creating the odd effects. I hate seeing this sort of thing, so I've 'fixed' them (now have 4 textures instead of just 1)

I started with the LE over a decade ago but never finished a level - any idea I ever had always got too big & too advanced - beyond my skills and often beyond the LE's capabilities.:o

I'm tempted to revisit a classic wad - I found old sketches for my very first level when my parents were moving house last year - I'm tempted to try and build it now. Assuming I can keep my imagination under control, I think it's doable.

So excited for the submarine, rome, antarctica, atlantis levels, it's some very rare theme for fanmade levels !!

MEGA alpha version LOL - Just to show something.
Spent all day making alternate textures to 'fix' mirroring issues etc
Didn't know how to really start the level off so kept it simple..
Rooms staring off small and the open up to reveal larger caverns (probably gonna change later)
Intended to start Lara in the lower levels first before climbing her way upwards into the more ornate areas of the Library (the top areas with marble and bricks)

Also, reveal of my beta version of TR4 Lara, with a higher neck line and holster straps on her legs.
I kept bi-linear filtering off to make it look all PSX like, but might look better on - need to test

I remember the guide appears at the beginning of that demo - will he have any role in the level - the original forgot about him after the first few rooms he appeared in...:confused:

Not sure. Never used the Guide before and as in the beta, he was only in like two rooms so kind of pointless.
Kind of felt like the beta was a test level in many ways so who knows.. maybe he was never intended to be there?

I don't think I'll be using him.. BUT I will be using the skeletons, scorpions and now even bats too
Got some fun dynamic ideas for puzzles involving fire and water too.. hopefully it turns out how I want it to

I'm thinking about joining the competition - everyone else seems to be doing it!:D

I'm starting with the default wads and did some tinkering - I like the shape of this Title column but it needed a Karnak style to blend in. The Karnak Wad was the first Wad I ever built with so I'm trying to see what I can do with such a vanilla set.

Huh, that's a really interesting idea - I could fade and blend the textures. I think the whole level will be indoors but the flooded room idea could work really well. It's always the upper levels of temples that preserve colour anyways.;)

I've always liked the Sleeping with the Fishes level in TR3 Gold and I like that see-through ceiling where you can look into the ocean and see the sharks patrolling. :D
