Of course she's going to be the well known Lara again. They can't throw legacy of the franchise away. They have to keep the pillars. LAU was bad, this is going to be great. And she'll be inexperienced just a few hours in the game, not the whole new series.

I think I don't see your point. So, this new character is not Lara Croft anymore for you. Or very little.
For me she's realistic version of classic Lara. She has everything Lara Croft should have. (That's my opinion, because braid and dual pistols doesn't make Lara Croft for me).

Would you rather have a game called Tomb Raider with a brand new character than with Lara Croft no matter how different she's from the previous versions of Lara?

I think this is what people are forgetting or worried about. Perhaps that she'll remain exactly as she is in the first 8 minutes of the game (the demo). This is the origins story we've never seen before. Okay there are changes, but Lara won't be The Tomb Raider at the beginning will she? I doubt she'll ever be the exact same as before where we get to see just bits of pieces of her character who was primarily seen as hard and 'bad ass'. She'll be more rounded all the time instead of the odd snippet of niceness and she'll be bad ass again, just maybe in a different way than before.

Of course there is. At the same time some things probably will be changed to the point where you can't recognize them. I can't be bothered with it unless it doesn't do the game any good, but I can see why some people would be.

Exactly! She's not a completely different Lara Croft from my point of view. Well, she is, but...she's still Lara, I don't know how to explain it. She is not that different.

1. She's recognizable as Lara Croft

2. Her clothes are almost the same

3. She's still British

4. She's still adventurer (or will become one)

5. She'll (most likely) get her dual pistols back in this game

6. She will raid tombs

So why people still can't see Lara Croft in her?

Yep, which is why they're making her so radically different. To make her relatable, I guess. She's still recognizable to me, though. If you threw a different name on her (as well as the game), people would be on the defense calling it TR-ripoff.

No, you haven't. That's correct. I'm glad they decided to make this origin story, because we never had one as a game (I don't count TR5 The Black Island). It would be extremely boring if she was kick ass and had dual pistols from the very beginning of this new game no matter how the story would be cool and graphics beautiful.

Why would they ever change number one female character with an unknown one. Second, I don't think she has changed a lot. If you compare to classic Lara her features are exactly the same. The only difference I find is realism in shapes. I would love to see braid,pistols but I never consider those as a physical part of character.

Yes, it [I]is[/I] about that. TR9 is one big intro. But still, people will weigh new Lara against the old. Not necessarily as a strict comparison, but whether or not she strays too far from what Lara was to them. And in that, there will never be an overall or general consensus as to whether new is better than old, it's all a matter of personal taste.

As for me, I don't care. I'm more worried about how the actual game will be, not the main character who, in all reality, is irrelevant.

That little trailer I saw recently where she's hanging (I think that's what it was) reminded me of the bound and swinging monsters from Silent Hill >_<

I am pretty sure a lot of people will take their words back after acquaintance with her capabilities.From what is described by Karl, it is the same Lara that we knew. Let us not forget that we have only seen 6min from the gameplay and that was only the beginning. Hence, no worries. She'll eventually become what we expect.
