The back of the book credits Core for all the images plus it has interviews with a few people at Core so yeah i'd say they were fairly involved in the making of it.

So exciting :jmp: Isn't it amazing that there are still secrets to be uncovered in a game that's 10 years old!?

Rivendell 03-07-13 13:16

The game is a treasure trove of history and secrets, and 10 years on to still be finding out new pieces of information is fantastic! :tmb:

Paschal seems very friendly and informative, I'm looking forward to seeing what else he's able to tell or show us!

I believe now it was Core Design that organized the Japanese art book, so Eidos probably never had the art. So some would be lost. The concept for Eckhardt's lab is undoubtedly in the thread some where. I will see if I can find it.

I think it is not rational to expect that someone from these forums could found it. What is the probability? I wonder where is the concept art that was on paper then.

Ok. I hope that you will succeed finding Eckhardt's lab concept art it as I went through the whole thread and I was unable to find proper version of it that I had before and you can see it on 3 minutes 18 seconds in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut_a83WhfVk

This bit in Paschal's CV has my interest.

The truth about TRAoD

:O I now finally got it! The truth about TRAoD!!!

We are always complaining about nearly every new tomb raider, becuase you can't explore too much in the game. Here is how Core tried to satisfy the consumenters. Core wanted to create a game, which was epic and big! But secretly they all wanted Lara gone. She made them lifes to "just constantly working", because she always wanted to share her new adventure to everyone at christmas. So here is an unreleased, (un)official statement from Core about the 'suckness' of AoD: "At first, we wanted to create a big adventure in 4 different lands with many levels as possible. But then we remebered how we hate Lara. So we just decided to work 3 whole years making content for the game, and then not releasing it. It's not the fault of Eidos! We did it on purpose! All content seen in betas or trailers, is still in the game, just hidden! Since people were always complaining about so many places which are just decoration and unable to explore, we did something completly different with AoD, than we would do with the older series (because we are already sick of that girl). We've hidden all the content in files of the TRAoD PC version. The game, for those who are not satisfied with it, is actually just a job for the fans, a job in which they should create programs and little tools, to leak out the beta content of AoD. We think the Lara-fans are able too do that! We believe in them!"

If that would be real ... ^^

James Kenny thought we might have access to the lost artwork, since he saw some of it here that as far as he knew had only been on that gadget he lost.

I gave up looking for the concept in the thread, here is the concept art for Eckhardt's lab, some 3D art, some early screenshots and some final screenshots.

This is from a scan of the AOD companion, it was also in the Japanese art book, but there was some strange problem with colours in the art book version, very dark and dreary and it had lost all the yellow ink. I think the one above is likely to be more like the original.

Final version, which had no artwork on the walls, no clear glass containers, puzzle elements had changed as well as other things.

Thank you very much for all these. It was really not in this thread. As far as I remember there was another thread in these forums long time ago where we discussed concept art before this thread was created and it was there. I think all concept has to be put in 1 or several posts to make it easier to find and discuss. Do you agree?

By the way, did you scan Eckhard's lab concept art by yourself? I love it. I believe if Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was made in these days, the final game would look exactly same as in this concept. Also, where did you got the other 2 screenshots from pre-release build? It looks completely different. Darker, with better lightening, there is a symbol on the wall as well they changed everything that is on the table and some of the things that are on the ground. It looks like you have to put something else instead of Alchemic Phials. I can imagine how much time was used just for these changes. And we still do not know the answer why all this was done.

I think that they possibly taken this room from somewhere else, probably Castle Kriegler. Or maybe they moved the last part of the level from somewhere else.

I have no idea where those screenshots came from, been years since they were added to the collection, and I failed to find an unmarked copy of either. I believe Justin might have had some on the Chronicles site since I have one with the logo. They were probably originally released to the fan sites after the magazines had already shown them. Unfortunately my magazine collection for AOD is a bit on the skimpy side, and what I have is not the best quality.

The scan of the concept art I did myself, I own both books.
