Netflix orders tomb raider anime series
I feel this deserves it's own thread as it's not Live Action.
The Tomb Raider anime series will follow the uber-popular Square Enix video game. The series will pick up after the video game reboot trilogy, and follow heroine Lara Croft 25 years after her first game appeared as she explores new territory. Tomb Raider has led to a global franchise encompassing movies, merchandise and comic books. The new Netflix-Legendary project marks Lara Croft’s first appearance in an animated series. The most recent game release, Shadow of the Tomb Raider garnered great acclaim. In 2001, Angelina Jolie played the titular heroine in the feature Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and then reprised the role in the 2003 sequel Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. In 2018, Alicia Vikander took over the role of Lara Croft in a new iteration of the film franchise and will step into the role once again in the sequel which will be written and directed by Lovecraft Country‘s Misha Green. The anime series will be written by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Red Sonja), who will executive produce with dj2 Entertainment Founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog) as well as Stephan Bugaj and Howard Bliss. Jacob Robinson will also serve as EP on this series under his company Tractor Pants.
https://deadline.com/2021/01/netflix-legendary-television-skull-island-tomb-raider-anime-series-1234681149/
Unlike Kong, who technically made his anime debut in the sixties with “The King Kong Show,” Lara Croft is stepping into the world of Japanese-style animation 25 years after her first game appearance in 1996. The narrative will pick up after the events of Square Enix’s video-game trilogy reboot (2013-2018), which has received numerous “Best of” nominations and awards. Tasha Huo (“The Witcher: Blood Origin,” “Red Sonja”) will write and executive produce, along with dj2 Entertainment Founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson (“Sonic the Hedgehog,” Stephen Bugaj and Howard Bliss. Robinson, who is also set to executive produce “Skull Island,” will executive produce “Tomb Raider.” The Tomb Raider video games are developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal, and published by Square Enix. The inclusion of “Skull Island” and “Tomb Raider” in Netflix’s growing anime repertoire backs up the claim the streaming giant made last fall about Japanese style animation on the platform: it’s lucrative. The company said that over 100 million households globally watched at least one anime title on the platform between Oct. 2019 and Sept. 2020. Last October, Netflix expanded its roster of anime suppliers, by signing production deals with Anima & Company (owner of NAZ), Science Saru and Mappa from Japan, and with Studio Mir based in Korea.
https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/netflix-anime-skull-island-tomb-raider-video-game-1234893288/ |

You raise a good point and I'll look into this. Thank you. |
Great news! The future for Tomb Raider looks bright!

It's unfortunate that it's reboot TR and reboot Lara.

Maybe they can repurpose the character and actually make something worthwhile out of her. It's going to be a whole new writing team so it's entirely possible to elevate this shell of a character into something more interesting. |
It's interesting how they completely ignore the existence of TR Revisioned and call this the first time Lara appears in an animated series.

That was more of a series of shorts. Not a series’s with one consistent narrative. Even the art style changed at multiple points. |

Also axes, so if there was any doubt this was indeed in the reboot continuity, then I guess this confirms it even more :p |
