ma ma ma fear, ma ma ma Yeah. Leik, I can't put it into words but I've had this feeling lately that the game might not be all it's cracked up to be. I think a lot of the "audience" thought the game was going to be more gamey. |

Better to be disappointed by something you don't care about though I guess. |

"Honest opinion?" "Yeah." "It looks awful." For once, those weren't my my words. They were the words of a friend of mine (a non-TR fan and not that much of a gamer) after I showed him the Turning Point & Crossroads trailer last night. He kind of liked the Turning Point trailer, but he liked it in the same way he likes things like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, he thought the CGI was impressive. But he baulked at the gameplay footage in the Crossroads trailer. He muttered "what the hell?" during that shot of Lara ducking & covering amid a gunfight, tutted when he saw the helicopter and said "for God's sake" while watching Lara creeping through the burning village (which is quite a statement from him as he's very religious). I asked him what he meant when he said it looked awful, it's not like the graphics are actually crap. He said that, even though he doesn't play Tomb Raider, he knew what it was about, he'd seen me play most of them at one point or another. But what the Crossroads trailer had showed him was nothing like any Tomb Raider he was aware of. I told him that the game was more or less based around Lara, her origins, and why she became the arse-kicking Indy rip-off we all know. To which he simply asked why? It kind of caught me on the hop if I'm honest, I didn't quite know what he meant, and he asked why anyone would care about who she was and why she did what she did. It didn't make sense to him, he thought people played games for the game, not the story. He ended with saying it looked more like a boring Schwarzenegger film. |
You have a MGC TR9 thread? :pi:

I don't much care for Lara THIS much either. It's ridiculous.
I gave up on MGC a long time ago. I wish I could access it. While I agree with you on most things Spong, I think the graphics are nice. But then again amazing graphics don't thrill me so maybe that has something to do with it. I think the story is intriguing though. If it was a movie, I would be stoked to see it, ya know? Why not? But it's a game with a fresh coat of cinema and it is terrible. They talk about depth in the gameplay Huge open hub spaces Wide range of mechanics Puzzles Tombs But I'm sorry all I'm seeing is a linear movie. |

Sorry it's not cinematic enough for you. Nationalism again, has nothing to do with it.

AC has the exploration that I fail to see in anything I've seen from this TR game thus far, despite that it's boasted as a major pillar. |

I'm not going to blindly put a game over every other game just because I've really enjoyed past ones. Especially when I don't like what I see. That's ignorant. Excuse me, I'm going to have an aneurysm. |
Lol, stanning is fun.

AC has always been an open world game. TR has never been an open world game yet it looks more open world than ANY of the past TR games, including the classics. We've seen a SMALL hub and it looks massive. What more do you want? |

But bragging about it? No... :p This is a public tomb raider forum, a place to discuss and express concerns regarding tomb raider. And if a game is doing exploration better than a game that boasts about exploration (but appears very linear) then something just...isn't right. I'm getting this game when it comes out because it's tomb raider. Not because I love what I see. And that's the honest truth. :p The only reason AC was mentioned is because you said it was only popular because gamers go for the "more popular game". I think it's popular because it appears to have some fun gameplay. But we disagree and that's fine. Quote:

http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lf1fg0oOq81qdlkgg.gif I was talking about his friend who has never played a TR game in his life and isn't interested in games so obviously your going to gather opinions about things from people who know stuff about it. That's nature. How does he know what a "real" TR game is like if he's never played one? Ummm because Spong has told him about it and he's seen Spong play it a couple of times. |
Simple mistake on my part, but your superiority complex is overwhelmingly annoying.

I have done nothing. Absolutely nothing. Let's just back track, shall we? I state some things regarding AC, that I think it does better than Tomb Raider. Maybe acknowledge a few things that I don't like. You of course respond to my post because you disagree with it (which is perfectly 100% okay :tmb:). And then I respond by stating that I'd rather not continue the discussion because I didn't see much point considering the chances of us reaching a mutual understanding were sly, which you can see here: Quote:
Then you had to make sure that you cut off the conversation, because you're too good for that. Of course I pointed it out, because I found it incredibly immature. I did nothing. And yes your gifs are incredibly insulting and ooze superiority complex. |

But as a whole, although he was specifically talking about TR9, what he said can be applied to a lot of games. In its simplest terms, he doesn't understand why people who play games nowadays seem to actually want a film and not a game. I posted it because it was, in some part, relevant to what larafan had said. |

I don't understand why people want a film instead of playing a game for the price of a game nowadays either but we've only seen like 30 minutes so far and it's obvious that you show the more actiony stuff. That's how most companies market their games. |

I don't want to start an argument or boast that i'm right or anything, just want to reassure myself that i'm not crazy:

So hopefully the next TR game actually goes open world.
