I watched a friend of mine playing TR9 yesterday, the first time I've seen someone who isn't me playing the game
I LOL'd heartily while watching him stumble about in the Mountain Village hub like a fool, trying to find the wolf den. He said he likes the exploring stuff but doesn't like the gun stuff much. When I left his place he was just working his way towards the radio tower and the first proper battles in & around the bunker and the base. He probably won't play much past that if he doesn't like the gunfights :pi:

That's probably its biggest obstacle. A movie after one popular game seems like hubris to me, especially if the writing mimics TR9. Still, it'd be their money they're wasting, not mine.

motoleo 19-03-14 15:48

If it really did come out before TR2 I think it would bomb.

I don't really want two TR movies in such short time. I watched the movie a few weeks ago on my X360 and it was boring as hell.

Oh. LOL

That's the general idea. TR was not a great lead up to any type of film. It's actually a deterrent.

Trenton 19-03-14 16:07

No movie thanks! It's almost 100% guaranteed to turn out crap
If they indeed make a reboot movie though it should definitely be a retelling of the story in TR9 imo...

Evan C. 19-03-14 16:23

Oh. Angel of Darkness 2 you say? Maybe...not. (Eveil smile)

I'll just leave this reboot inspired fan movie here.
What do you think :D

Never mind, I figured out my issue. :p

That's just an Open Chat thread. Why are you posting about it here? O_o

In case this hasn't been posted already, here is a recent article in which Rhianna Pratchett expresses her "disappointment" in the gamer community over the suggestion of Lara getting raped.

That's interesting. She also says that it had some positive side effects by the theme being brought up and discussed though.

Btw, does anyone know if she is the lead writer for the next game?

vinnyvis 23-04-14 15:47

What was the name of that pub Lara worked in before Yamatai, again??

So she never did get raped, but let‘s be real here. Vlad totally gives off rape-y vibes. Throughout the whole segment, I never got the feeling that he wanted to kill her.

_Ninja_ 24-04-14 15:45

That whole "rape" mess was an exercise in stupidity and overreaction.

And then to paraphrase many of the reviews, "Oh that rape scene... totally not what it looked like back then."

No, you are just idiots who can't pay attention because it's exactly what it looked like back then.

Spong 24-04-14 15:51

Ron Rosenberg saying in that Kotaku interview that the scavengers would try to rape Lara didn't help matters. You can't blame the gaming press or the public and say they reacted over nothing.

Valentino 24-04-14 16:12

God the whole rape situation seems more iconic than the reboot!

Which is why Ron Rosenberg disappeared shortly afterwards and has never been seen since :pi:

Steven_1379 24-04-14 16:17

the god phrase ordeal is fine for me

the British use god a lot its like a gosh or an omg
i prefer her sayin oh god over ohmygod or blimey
camila did it great she really liveed all them OH GOD!!!

and after all im waiting for a lara thats after religious understanding of life
im a series that revolves around tombs and ancient gods/religions and its most hidden conspired secrets

Yeah... But in mind my his only fault is he underestimated how stupid and prone to overreaction people are.

Because everything he said is a totally valid interpretation of things.

motoleo 24-04-14 18:42

I think I'n going to play all TR games in French from now on.

Valentino 26-04-14 20:27

I just seen TR on a list of most unforgetable moments of 2013. And using the bow was one of them.
http://wegotthiscovered.com/gaming/u...-moments-2013/
Also, it is on a list as the 17th best game of all time...

Thanks for sharing.

Wow, this is pretty good. Well done to TR. IMO, unforgettable moments in 2013 I agree with; TR had a pretty huge impact that year, but 17th best game EVER? Fair enough it's their list, their opinion, but they must have some seriously low standards. But each to their own, of course.

Valentino 26-04-14 22:05

I hope in the next game she walks without bending her knees and back slightly. It worked for this game because it showed someone who wasn't confidant.

Yeah, I found that annoying after a while. I kept on thinking, "Lara straighten you're back girl or you'll get backache".

scremanie 26-04-14 22:46

Like when she was jogging, or when you hold the stick half way to make her just walk?

Valentino 26-04-14 22:53

Yeah. But it's understandable. Or unless maybe the developers could have put some subtle new sass to her walk in the later stages of the game to reflect he change, I dunno.

Rai 26-04-14 23:10

Yes, it was understandable under the circumstances and part of it could be because she's constantly on alert and being cautious? As you say though, she'll have a tad more confidence in the next game, so hopefully won't walk constantly in a stooped position.

Trenton 26-04-14 23:13

^to be fair she was also quite badly injured as well ;)

motoleo 26-04-14 23:29

Did you know,

You can kill the deer and then jump on it to break its neck, and if you do, all the other deers will gather around you and look at you while you're doing it?

This very much :p watching her walk alone gave me backache !

Stevo505 27-04-14 00:16

I thought there was a noticeable change in her posture and the way she carried herself later in the game, at least during cutscenes. I didn't see a change in the in-game animations.

I completely disagree with the latter listing. I enjoyed TR2013 but it doesn't deserve being 17th place, and Half-Life 2 deserves to be way higher than 16th place. Bioshock 6th place? What about System Shock 2 (which is considered to be the original Bioshock series, but is less watered down than Bio)? Deus Ex?

Yeah, I'm going to say that person just started playing video games just recently.

"Also worth nothing were the puzzles. I don’t mean to just gush about this game, but even the puzzles blew me away. For the first time in as long as I can remember in gaming, puzzling felt organic. There was no block pushing, instead, there were puzzles that used elements and puzzles that used weighted objects. The best part? The puzzles were in individual caves, and had nothing to do with the story progression, so if you sucked at puzzling you could skip that section altogether."

As for the 17th best game of all time? Well that's saying...something. It consequently calls TReboot the best TR game. When I think about the TR games I'd put ahead of it (ex. Anniversary), and then I think of all the games I'd put ahead of Anniversary, TReboot gets pushed back quite a bit.

larafan25 27-04-14 20:34

eugh. reading that has ripped the Jesus out of my soul.

The1andOnlyTR 01-05-14 20:14

Rather than bump my own completely ignored thread, I'll give this one a go. :p

Does anyone have the sound effect that plays when Lara discovers a new tomb?! The wind chime sound?
