On my browser shadows looks weird, similar to TV snow.

MontyTRC 16-12-16 08:18

Hi :)
I've followed with interest your project. I think that now the bigget two points to resolve are a correct collision detection with camera, objects and a correct portal rendering. I've played a little with your source code, and I resolved some cases but all. I think that something more general must be implemented (not like me that I tried to fix single situations :D ). Maybe continous collision detection or similar.
Really nice shadows :) I've noticed a framerate drop on browser, didn't tried yet on native EXE.

Really impressive job ;)

Caesum 16-12-16 08:19

I have same issue as Kenobi.

Also the web version is incredibly slow for me, even though at the beginning of this thread it worked flawless. Not sure if it's because of the browser, or because of new features.

EDIT: The OpenLara alpha 1 (20161126) .exe works well for me. :)

Erikku 16-12-16 11:55

That's strange, the shadows look absolutely gorgeous to me on the browser version.
Using firefox on windows 10 68bit btw.

Mrs Manson 16-12-16 14:31

The web version is not working anymore for me. And when i try to download the file, Avast just delete it and says is virus

MontyTRC 16-12-16 15:03

It may depend upon driver support. It happens that some drivers are not OpenGL full compatible (for example standard Windows drivers).
I've a PC with a Intel HD4600 with Intel drivers installed and it performs well, just a little slow.

moka 16-12-16 15:11

Amazing job :tmb:

it works perfectly for me

Windows 10, Chrome, GPU intel graphics 4000

Ah, oh yeah. It happens to me as well. :( Just disable Avast for 10 minutes and unpack the archive. After unpacking Avast will suddenly decide that the unpacked folder is safe.

Guys, many thanks for feedback!
I uploaded a new version and hope it fixes performance and browser supporting issues. But my IE11 does not have necessary extensions. For that case future versions of game will be run with original blob shadows, I'm working on it.

upd: have problems in safari

Amazing!!! great job!!:tmb:
the shadow its like in the Dreamcast
:cln::D :yah:

Caesum 17-12-16 14:36

For me, the new version works flawless on Firefox, but lags immensely on Chrome for some reason.

Kenobi 18-12-16 12:28

I have problem. Sometimes Lara draw and put off weapons constantly. She cannot stop doing this. I am using web version. Only I have this issue?

Which browser and key (Q, Alt) for draw do you use?

Kenobi 19-12-16 06:32

I am using Firefox. For draw I press Alt.

noonbob 19-12-16 07:12

This looks so good  The shadows are perfect !

Maybe FF uses Alt as system key, try to use Q instead.

I've solved problems for Edge and Safari, now shadows works in these browsers too.

Yeah ! Alt Key makes weapons bug for me. Lara constantly draws and puts em back, she's stuck in the animation. That's also why I can't play it Fullscreen with Firefox, since I need to press Alt+ Enter.

It's cool to see you made the enemies work. Amazing work, keep it up !

XProger 20-12-16 22:40

I'm working on the next graphics feature. Yes, I know, gameplay is more important but I'm just itching to see it in original Tomb Raider so ... let me introduce the ambient cube technique.
This tech can solve many problems with prebacked ambient lighting per room to get it more accurate with color reflections for a non lighted areas.

Some screenshots and video:

mp4 video (8.3 mb)

Stunning ! :cln:

Alex Fly 21-12-16 18:30

Looking amazing ! :tmb:

XProger 21-12-16 22:52

Here is a screenshot and video of environment reflections on savegame crystals (from PSX version)

Caesum 24-12-16 10:30

Oh wow, it looks exactly like the PSX version, amazing! Why does the animation play so strangely though?

It's animation debug feature - slow motion mode by holding R key :)

XProger 26-12-16 23:44

Added simple "wet Lara" effect.
I've idea how to use noise maps to improve it in the future.

I love how it looks!
Do you plan yo add also some shaders for realistic water surface?

Yep, I'm in researching of best method without adding a content.

VictorXD 27-12-16 10:57

HUNF! I just believe how good TR1 looks <3

-Roli- 27-12-16 12:48

Thank you so much for all your hard work Xproger! Classic TR has never looked better! :cln:

Mrs Manson 27-12-16 14:37

Now all we need is the Tomb Raider Xtra textures... :whi:

Alex Fly 27-12-16 14:47

Impressive work on the wet effect ! :tmb:

I think it's a great idea. In first versions I had loader for Android port HD textures. Here is very old screenshot:
http://xproger.info/projects/OpenLar...d_textures.jpg
But it's very lazy (at the end of game) and useless rework some of textures just scaled x4 without any filtration. I looked at custom texture packs from community but I didn't see any full rework.

VictorXD 27-12-16 15:41

Download the Xtra textures. There is one that is complete but it's terribly unfaithful to the original textures, Anjonasdh-something's pack looks great. The folders are a bit of a mess and can be hard to find stuff but most if not all Caves textures are done.

Other packs are also worth a look, it would just be a matter of finding the necessary textures and replacing them with the best looking ones. :)

If you'd like I wouldn't mind helping out.

XProger 27-12-16 22:40

Now I'm working on normal mapping generation based on existing content. Screenshots is mathematically incorrect but it's just first attempts :)

laracroftswest 28-12-16 06:05

Just tried it out and that wet effect is incredible :yik:

Great work!

Mrs Manson 28-12-16 15:02

At trsearch.org we have some good ones... There is a peru texture pack that is very similar to the TR1 textures...
By the way, impressive work! And that wet effect is awesome :jmp:

XProger 28-12-16 22:52

Now WebGL version can open original PC and PSX level files from your computer. Not all working well, it's a big task for the next alpha version 8)

Dustie 29-12-16 13:53

This is absolute bananas.

We've been waiting for something like this for so long... Incredible.

Currently the web version from the OP link is unusuable for me, it runs but I get like 1 FPS, it's unplayable.
The latest release from GitHub, OpenLara alpha 1 (20161126), works about fine and it's gorgeous! The only issue -- sound is glitching, it's broken up with tiny regular intervals, like it's playing in slow speed without being resampled beforehand...

Is the GitHub version the truly latest one, though? I can't seem to activate shadows or any other of the recent graphical effects you wrote about.

EDIT:
The web version works much better in Firefox, it's actually playable. I LOVE the real time shadows!!!

Thanks for feedback. I'll increase sound buffer size, it may solve "clicks" problem.
Web version is most latest, executables on GitHub are updating rarely.
What a graphics card and browser (Chrome is prefer) you have?
