Apparently that related to the night hub, as someone who went to the Germany meet said that a piece of wreckage, a plane or something, began to break and fall under Lara's feet.
You have control the whole time, and we hope that makes you feel closer to the character. If you miss a jump, that's something you did rather than something the engine did.
^Ironic you should quote that from Edge. Great minds think alike...
Why is it a huge pile of suckness?
I don't want a safety net. It's bad enough that there'll probably be checkpoints every twenty feet. You entered a new area...checkpoint. You found a secret...checkpoint. You walked up some stairs...checkpoint. You picked something up...checkpoint. You used something...checkpoint. You spoke to someone...checkpoint. You coughed...checkpoint.

Going back to the auto-grab though, Crystal's track record for scripted jumps like that isn't good. If I die making a jump, I want to know it's because I screwed up, not the game. I'd much prefer a manual grab, I want to be in control as much as possible. That's how Tomb Raider started.

Did you read what I quoted?

edit: Yes you did.

I think they've taken control away from us grabbing, but have given it back by allowing us to steer Lara, and we actually physically have to hit the ledge, so if the jump wasn't long enough, we don't make the cut.

I have (now) :D

Who knows I guess. It could go either way. Although there certainly weren't any tutorial text in the footage (legit and leaked) telling Lara how to manual grab, not like there was with that wall scrabble thing.

just*raidin*tomb 15-01-12 19:24

Probably because we had already jumped and grabbed things before Day 3.

larafan25 15-01-12 19:26

^Great point. Also, I doubt that demo part of the game will be the first time we have to use the scramble feature, so it should end up being introduced beforehand.

I think right when we escape the den, all of that open space would be a good time to introduce us to our platforming skills. As apposed to two days later.

Well...the wall scramble was just a tutorial.

I assume and hope...we won't get a button prompt each time, or have time freezing on us...that would be stupid.

I think it's easier to mention what they've taken out than to list what has been added as a result. Essentially, we will not be drawn to surfaces. So if you jump on an angle, you won't find yourself hitting a ledge if you didn't intend to. That's what I assume the result of no magnetic gameplay will be.

Also, if there really is a lack of tacked on ledges and it's basic platforming like the classics, then there should be less room for climbing to feel sticky and magnetic. Not to mention boring.

It seems this is the next thing they'll talk about though, so hopefully we get to see some evidence of non-sticky ledges.

edit: In the leaked demo we can see Lara's turn a bit when she jumps over the balance beam, stumbles around on the roof and then falls and hits the balance beam, securing her grip.

I think the reason we'll get auto-grab is because we're probably going to be doing other things while climbing, holding other weapons too...

I also think we're going to spend less time stuck onto walls and more time jumping between surfaces.
