AAAAAAAHHHHH

GURL, spill the deets!

skylark1121 29-10-12 03:36

It was in the last podcast... or maybe the previous podcast.... Yes, I believe it was #14. Or maybe it was in an interview, but I swear I heard those words. :D

It's contextual when it comes to the story.

No. :p

When you first arrive in an area, it will be contextual weather and day/night cycle, etc. However, if you choose to fast travel through the base camps and revisit a location, it will be random.

For instance, the night hub is going to be nighttime and rainy when we first visit it, but upon revisiting the hub, it may be day time, or evening, etc. :D

just*raidin*tomb 29-10-12 04:16

They said that you could revisit different locations at a different time of day with different weather. That was pretty much the extent of it. The term "cycle" or "random" wasn't used I don't believe and they kind of do contradict each other. :p

I could be wrong though. I mean we already know its supposed to be different upon revisits and have known this for quite a while.

Well, they did say that there are times in the game when nighttime cycles into sunrise, giving you the sense that you made it through another night. But, that could just be contextual. But at least that confirms some sort of cycle. :p

just*raidin*tomb 29-10-12 04:31

I'm sure its contextual. They said something to the effect of you go through this big ordeal and wake up to a new day or something. I don't even know. But I'm like 85.987% sure there won't be a true day/night cycle. :p

We’re actually deep in that now and fine-tuning it in terms of how much water and how much food; how long she can go before consciously you’re like ‘I’d be starving by now.’ We’re also exploring what it means to collect. I’m not going to detail it too much and spoil it. What I will say is that this is not a simulation game. You’re not going to be picking berries and drinking your own wee in order to survive, but there will be a sense of realism in that she will have to scavenge food to keep herself going.” [Transcribed from Crystal Habit Podcast #4 (September 2011)]

Also, weather:

KS: “You will not stand in one place and over time watch the sun set and the moon rise. That being said, you will feel like there’s a persistent weather system. If you play in night hub and it’s raining and you fast travel back to another area, it will be rainy there too. It won’t feel like a dynamic weather system where you can stand on a cliff for hours and watch the sun moving across the sky. We have smart systems in place to help present it so that as you move around it will be the same time of day and weather as contextual to the narrative.” [Transcribed from Crystal Habit Podcast #4 (November 2011)]

Lukass 29-10-12 18:11

^ Yep, I remember those answers, however, this was some time ago. Now she doesn't need to hunt for food in order to survie, it's just for fun and you gain XP's. No more, no less.

larafan25 29-10-12 18:12

Odd. :/

Maybe water is the same thing as hunting now, I would assume you get the water from the well.

I wonder if it will be introduced as a story mission and then just left optional.

Whaaat. I just remember Lukass was talking about the food and I couldn't find it then (myself) and now I see it.

It really does make it sound as though it was going to be a necessary mechanic. I kind of wish it was.

I wonder if maybe it would become necessary in a harder mode?

Hmmm... :/

Well, I don't think it would become necessary in a harder mode. It certainly was pretty important aspect of the gameplay, but now it's just for fun and for gaining XP's. God alone knows what made them to change the purpose of it.

CBS_TombRaider 29-10-12 18:36

I doubt there'll be a day/night cycle to be honest. Possibly, they intended for it to be in the game, since it's in that Podcast, but said Podcast is also quite old already. I believe there might be different versions of hubs (such as morning, day, night, dry weather or rain), but I don't see a cycle happening, because it could interfere with the way the weather works contextually.

I'm not really heartbroken over this tbh. I'll be more than happy if we can see hubs at different points in time. Day/night cycle could interfere with the storytelling, so unless they can make that work, I think it'd be best to leave it out.

Lukass 29-10-12 18:57

Nothing, but doubts. Lul

Spong 29-10-12 19:28

How can there be an ongoing day/night cycle if the game is supposedly only set over four days?

Four days? Who said that?

Rai 29-10-12 19:33

It isn't set over 4 days :vlol:

I think only the beginning leading up to the night hub is.

Karl, or some other mouthpiece right back at the very start of the hype. Whoever it was the game spanned four days. I've used that time frame countless times in other threads over the years, about how Lara's supposed to become so skilled in this or that in just four days.

That's the last time I listen to anyone from Crystal then. They're clearly wrong :p

Lukass 29-10-12 19:41

LOL, what kind of tedious life would I have if I sought enjoyment from purposely lying about an insignificant plot point in a game I don't really care that much about on some random internet forum? Yeah, the payoff from having you and couple of other people question it was sooo worth the hassle :tmb::p

I didn't pluck the number out of thin air just for fun, Karl or someone definitely made a reference to it. You're the swatty TR9 book worm, go, find the article

Lots of times. Especially if you watch shows like Big Brother or films like Paranormal Activity.

Rai 29-10-12 20:15

^^I'd say definitely considering it's night the first time she gets to the first base-camp and night again by the time she kills creepy Russian guy.
