In case nobody has mentioned it, this idea of Lara vs the Kraken borrows very, very heavily from the much overlooked game "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb", 2003. In it, the original Tomb Raider fights a gigantic octupus-like monster in underwater ruins beneath Istanbul, using a powerful speargun. The Kraken also has the ability to launch jellyfish at Indy, which stick to him and pull him towards his doom.

There's Krakens in so many other stories.. You could say TRU got the idea from Pirates of the Caribbean, or Age of Mythology.
