I'd say games like the Walking Dead and Dear Esther were strictly cinematic games. I think games like Tomb Raider and Assassins Creed aren't really cinematic, they just have cinematic influences.

I'm just gonna put this linky here. You'll need to clicky the image within for a larger version.
https://twitter.com/25fpsstaffs/stat...143168/photo/1 They need to bring back that yellow top outfit for TR10, tbh. |
My game glitched

Anyone got the climbing axe symbol? Or a simple line drawing of Lara that could be easily replicated?
|
There is indeed an axe symbol from the game, a nice vector one that Driber of the Eidos forum made, they were posted for a forum, banner competition I believe:
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...psde598bc8.png edit: I also remember, maybe it was in the Final Hours app, a silhouette of Lara. |

There's almost nearly 4 months until a year has passed since the release of this game. Does anyone recon we'll get a reveal at all next year? And does anyone think the next game should be as gritty as Tomb Raider? Or back to exotic locations and less harsh situations for Lara?

Exotic can be gritty.
|
^Everyone's fed up with gritty though. Gritty is getting pretty boring :/
|
Gritty. wat.
Crystal Dynamics have not even scratched the surface of gritty. Gritty can be so many things and so different. |

I like gritty. Bring on moar grittiness!

Gritty is hot.
|
i'm up for the grittiness. hopefully the next TR will still have some more grit.....and ewoks. TR needs more ewoks. :whi:
|
What TR definitely needs (assuming it is TR indeed) is less new-t spam.

For those of you with awful taste in games, you can vote for TR there. Lol |
I voted GTAV, naturally. The other games may as well not be there
|
Honestly, I've only played two games that came out this year and that's Tomb Raider and Beyond: Two Souls. Out of those two, I preferred Tomb Raider (never thought I would be saying that, but Beyond was such a disappointment :/). I voted TR for GOTY and Best Action Adventure (it's not in the Best Shooter category for some reason trolololol), mainly because I like to support the TR series and I imagine it does need the help, but for best voice actress, I did vote for Ellen Page in Beyond: Two Souls. Beyond may have been a disappointment, but the voice acting was still superb. And really, Camilla doesn't deserve any awards for her voice acting anyway.

I just had a weird bug while playing TR9. I was doing that bell tower puzzle and when I knocked the bell down it didn't fall through the gate at the bottom, instead it landed off to one side
Luckily, jumping down from the balcony on to the gate seemed to do the trick, the cutscene kicked in and Lara was magically on the balcony again, ready to fall through :p |

Why is the last section of TR9 so bloody tedious? Everything from the moment you leave the Shipwreck Beach is a massive anticlimax :(
EDIT The puzzle with the cage is okay, everything else about the Monastery is absolute rubbish though. |
Lol on the other hand I find that last part exhilarating. So much so that once I return to the beach I go straight for the endgame. No collecting stuff and wasting time. :D
|
Maybe you should play Legend some more then if running down generic corridors and stopping occasionally to gun people down is what you enjoy doing. Call me picky but I prefer exploration over being led from one overplayed set piece to another.
And then there's the world's worst last boss (and I use that term in the loosest sense), an encounter so brain-meltingly simple-minded that the only way the game makes things even slightly difficult is to throw other enemies into the mix. That's the card Crystal play constantly from the moment you get to Shanty Town. |
Most games nowadays have endgame levels which are linearish. Fallout 3 and NV had open levels, yet their final missions were as linear as TR's. Which is why I didn't expect these last levels to be all about fweedom and exploration, especially when the rest of the game isn't as open and exploratory anyway.
Eh, and I enjoy a wide variety of games, from Call of Duty (oh no! horrific I know!) to Skyrim. I just tailor my expectations according to the game I'm playing. Contrary to popular opinion, you can like more than one type of game, you know? |

Times change :( |
^ Real creativity is not in favour nowadays.

Btw if you read my comment carefully I never compared TR to FO3/NV. I just game those two games as examples of open and exploration-heavy games which become linear at its ending. |
TR9 is available on Xbox LIVE Games on Demand for £9.99 . The offer is probably only open to Gold subscribers though :pi:

why didnt mathias just kill himiko's body?
|
Quote:
Well I guess he needed a distraction to get to the chamber where her body was, given that it was guarded by Oni. Also, I'd assume Himiko would know his intention, and try to stop him, if he didn't have the vessel with him, like she did with Lara by using the weather. |
Mathias was a professor, right? I bet that butch know Himiko was only a device, I was trying to gain access to the power by having Samantha on his control. Plot will evolve further you'll see and I'll dance naked and laugh.

wot
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps66bfaf80.png I do hope the plot evolves. There is no way it was just... an ancient sole being all oogly boogly and stuff. |
