Guys, have you seen this new hands-on review?

They said some things on a negative way that I founded really cool. And be careful, there's info about the guy who wich Lara get the bow -_- :
Personally, I loved this:
"... the island looks truly wild and intimidating; Lara's reaction and state fitting. When you're playing the game though, that's not what you're feeling. Instead, all you care about is finding the next crate you can smash open to get +10 salvage. Then, instead of feeling like a survivor reliant only on your cunning, you feel annoyed that you're going to need to retrace your steps for 20 minutes just to get back to your camp."
Getting lost on the island? I LOVE that. Or maybe this reviewer was very stupid.
"It's a powerful scene, but one that's ruined by the difficult Quicktime event and button mashing which was our only focus and interaction for the entire five minute sequence. Lara may be guilty, but we were just annoyed at having to see a GAME OVER screen twelve times before we managed it."
A hard QTE? I LOVE that one too. Or maybe this guy was way too stupid.

Very interesting preview. Btw, the URL you posted is not right. Here's the actual link that take you to the preview:

Some things I would like to point out in the article.

Story is the goal then and Tomb Raider works dedicatedly towards this end - sometimes too much so. The game is so desperate to tell you Lara's story that it feels like it's always interrupting you with cutscenes or, worse, 'Press X to Not Die' quicktime events. Tomb Raider is trying so hard to make Lara a character outside of the game that all it really does is damage itself by making the game its focus.
|
This is a concern for many people on the forums - they're trying too hard to get Lara's story across. And evidently, it's not just us who thinks so, it's someone who's actually played the game. Personally, I don't mind it that much, but if so many other people dislike it, I think it's something CD should be worried about.

20 minutes? The camp is less then 2 minutes away in the demo we saw. This makes me think that the demo they played is improved/expanded. Either that, or they are just simply exaggerating to get their point across.

When Lara upgrades her axe and gives it a few swings through the air, she seems happy with the improvement, reassured

Lara swings her axe and is happy with the improvement? I don't remember that ever happening. Perhaps more proof that the demo they played is longer and more up-to-date?

That's nice to see, but it's only a distraction from how you're planning ahead for the next upgrade - the snazzy, floating menu says you've bizarrely got enough salvage to either put a new string on your bow or a new blade on your axe. Which will you do?
|
Something very interesting which I don't think we knew before. We have a choice of what to upgrade - the bow or the axe. Also, this is yet another thing that was not included in the demo we've seen.

Difficult QTEs? A GAME OVER screen? 2 things I find very hard to believe. The QTEs don't look all that difficult, but I suppose we'll have to actually try them out for ourselves to judge. And a GAME OVER screen for a game that has checkpoints? That doesn't make much sense, but again, maybe they were just exaggerating to get their annoyance across, IDK.

The environment, for example, is realised incredibly, with some of the most stunningly real-looking forests we've ever seen.

Oh, really? The game really looks that amazing? From what we've seen, the graphics are not all that great (imo), but remember, this is likely an updated version of the demo they're playing, so the graphics could of have improved by now.
So, yeah, that's it. Thanx for the preview, Evan C. :D
