whattt??? the shotgun was awesome.... in shanty town where the secret tomb is located i remember standing by the entrance of that small shrine and killing them all with the shotgun...the bodies were all crammed in front of me!

and how didnt u use the shotgun to confront the shield soldiers? :p

Rifle and shotgun are the best combo. But it's also easy mode.

Great minds think alike. I was going to mention that very encounter as one of the rare times where the shotgun has uses in combat. If you can kettle the enemies, get them to bottleneck in something like that doorway, the shotgun is great for cutting through them like a scythe. But you still have to be pretty close to them for it to be really effective, the shotgun has a good spread but it's really weak over any kind of distance. I prefer using the door frame as cover and picking them all off with the rifle as they approached.

I'd let them approach, wait for their attack, roll behind them and then shoot them in the back (using the rifle).

Has anyone discussed the hints in Lara's notebook at the end of this game? The whole CROATOAN thing? I can't find anything about that on google tbh, I don't see how it relates to the next TR. Is it an island? What does it look like? What's the history behind it?

Well Roanoke Island, which is part of North Carolina today, was the first colony of Britain. The first attempt failed, but the second attempt was kind of clunky too. John White who was a colonist had to sail back to England for supplies. He was to return to the new world within 3 months but since England was in war with Spain, he had no ships to return with. He could only get back 2 or 3 years later, but didn't find anyone. Only the word "CROATAN" carved onto a wood.

Apparently he told the people that if they leave, they should carve the name of the place where they go and carve the direcion too. It is believed that Croatan is Hatteras island where a group of natives lived who were friendly to the newcomers, but John White couldn't reach the island due to ill weather. He returned to England and never really tried to figure out what happened. Since then this place is referred to as "The Lost Colony".

Going by this, it seems like we're going to an island again. :p

I hope we're not going there as it sounds awfully cheesy and I'm just sick of islands right now!

Thanks! :tmb:

This is all I've found about Hatteras island:

"Hatteras Island is known for sport fishing, surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding, and is known as "The blue marlin capital of the world."

Accommodations range from hotels and condos to luxurious oceanfront cottages. Hatteras Island is often used for destination weddings, family reunions, and special events."

...wow. Sounds like Lara's up for some fun...:p

Oh! Well... on second thought, this island doesn't sound half bad :p !

I can see it now!

I think it can turn out to be very interesting. I can already see myself collecting books and scriptures of both the colonisers, John White and maybe the natives. :p

I think it will probably be centered around the natives.
Who knows, maybe they still worship a godess. The moon queen. :p

I somehow don't find intresting following the steps of a colonist and I fail to see why anyone would :o ...

Besides, another island? It's the expected "Trapped in a ****ed up island" scenario that we already had once, why do it again? No, thanks!

Why not? She's a historian/archeologist after all. Getting to know more about a mistery or even solving it sounds like something a person like Lara would do.

Why? We don't necesserily have to be trapped. Lara will just park her yacht and we'll return with two huge sacks of gold, jewellery and other trinkets. :ton:

In other words, I'm trying to say that the possibility of the next game's plot having to do with the colonization of America is something I'm not instrested at all and I hope we go to Egypt or at least somewhere exciting :p!

tomee 18-05-13 18:05

Egypt is overrated and overdone.
I want to return there at one point, but not now.

trfanX34 18-05-13 18:06

What happened to that poll we had going about the setting of TR2?

dream raider 18-05-13 18:06

An island that a colonist couldn't reach due to bad weather doesn't sound intriguing to be honest. What? Is there some god or goddess like Himiko that needs to be freed so the weather can pipe down- again?

I did some additional research* and apparently he didn't come with his own ship, but an expedition ship agreed to stop off at Roanoke. He previously instructed the settlers to carve a cross onto a tree if they were ambushed, but there was no cross. This and the fact that there was no sign of battle indicates that they didn't left in a hurry. He wanted to sail south but there was a storm and the sailers refused to go south. They left on the next day.

I'd also like to point out that Lara found the book among Mathias' notes/maps/books. It could be connected to him. Or to that Trinity/Star phenomenon thing that I still don't understand. :|

*read: I checked wiki again.

dream raider 18-05-13 18:22

I don't want to make assumptions because they will probably invent their own version of the island, but it doesn't sound good at all right now tbh! :p

motoleo 18-05-13 22:08

Oh, I remember now. It was in the new TR, I was going to find a picture for it.

But you know how, it's somewhere in the palace level, I think it's right before you get to the palace, when you're running, and you're in a totally different location, but somehow the scenery shifts around you?

It's like a pathway from Ireland to Japan, it looked so different. You're walking in this corridor and you're all of a sudden in the palace.

It was just so unrealistic, does anyone remember that?

Please, two times and one reimagination are not overdone. But maybe it is too early for Egypt, it would be better to see her go there after she is a fully accomplished tomb raider.

Well yeah, I kinda felt the same. But... Ireland  ???

motoleo 18-05-13 23:07

It starts right at 12:20.

Apparently this is right outside the door to the Palace. Don't walk out the wrong door, you could fall into Hell.

Wait, wait, that was meant to be a song for AoD, as in AoD the TR game?
