I also have this really odd fantasy of being on the edge of a cliff, waaaaaaaaay up high in the mountains, which is sloped just enough so if we go to close to the edge we will slip off, and you see two scavengers up there. Then there's a fight, on the slope, and people slip, and then you're hanging from the edge.

I wonder if there will be a maneuver to pull people off of edges. I know it would end up being compared to Uncharted, but it's a good move, and it was in Batman in some capacity if I remember correctly.

She could use her axe to claw into the scavengers chests and pull them down. That's original.

Reminds me of Assassin's Creed (not a bad thing).

I think it would be nicer if she jabbed it into their foot.

That seems like something you'd find in God of War, Kratos climbing up a wall of limbs and hands reaching out, smashing the axe into the strained hands as he pulls himself up out of a giant hole in the Earth.

Adrenaline 15-01-12 18:48

I wonder if we will get hard quick time events in this game? :/

larafan25 15-01-12 18:49

I hope the hard gameplay is reserved for complex problems to solve, and hard boss battles which require strategy to complete.

And tough exploration, hard to judge leaps etc. Plus, no checkpoints for girls :ohn:

I was going to add something about climbing.

But there is not....feeling of reward when you miss a leap in a game that has auto grab. No matter how much you have to hit the edge, or can steer Lara, it still would feel iffy I think.

I do hope the game world it self is complex and allows lots of exploration so you can get lost. I also hope you fee boggled by how huge your world is. For example, being asked to scale a mountain when you're surrounded by mountains should make you feel inferior to the giant world around you.

There's an auto-grab!!? :yik:

That's it, this game couldn't get any worse...

Well I assume so.

I can't remember whether it was confirmed or not, but something made me think manual grab once, but then somewhere along the way my mind changed to autograb.

ugh, i hate auto grab so much, I feel like when i jump towards the ledge i don't have any participation involved in skill. I just press the button and she goes at it, Weather as in previous games, i loved the feeling of the fact you may miss or screw it up, or that you had to press a button to grab the ledge. :/

_Awestruck_ 15-01-12 19:00

lol Auto-grab certainly is annoying, but it won't break the game. :vlol:

This time you have to steer her though, and you'll probably have to hold down the jump button longer if you want a longer jump. Not to mention there is sprint, so we'll probably see a sprint jump. And you have to actually hit the ledge, you won't be drawn to it like in the past three games.

Find that confirmation/denial, auto-grab is the difference between this game being good or tanking.

To get to that new zone, Lara has to make good use of her abilities. First we have to do some jumping. This time our heroine won't just "stick" magically to the closest ledge, but we'll have to maneuver while she's jumping. Althought it may seem more complicated than in previous installments, this will serve us well to modify our trajectory mid-jump to reach other zones.

This confirms nothing but related to the topic.

No. I'm obviously talking about the game tanking with myself, you're not thinking that comment applied generally (as in sales) are you?

Auto-grab is a huge pile of suckness.

Why is it a huge pile of suckness?

Also, more stuff about platforming...

Apparently that related to the night hub, as someone who went to the Germany meet said that a piece of wreckage, a plane or something, began to break and fall under Lara's feet.

I don't want a safety net. It's bad enough that there'll probably be checkpoints every twenty feet. You entered a new area...checkpoint. You found a secret...checkpoint. You walked up some stairs...checkpoint. You picked something up...checkpoint. You used something...checkpoint. You spoke to someone...checkpoint. You coughed...checkpoint.

Going back to the auto-grab though, Crystal's track record for scripted jumps like that isn't good. If I die making a jump, I want to know it's because I screwed up, not the game. I'd much prefer a manual grab, I want to be in control as much as possible. That's how Tomb Raider started.

Did you read what I quoted?

edit: Yes you did.

I think they've taken control away from us grabbing, but have given it back by allowing us to steer Lara, and we actually physically have to hit the ledge, so if the jump wasn't long enough, we don't make the cut.

Who knows I guess. It could go either way. Although there certainly weren't any tutorial text in the footage (legit and leaked) telling Lara how to manual grab, not like there was with that wall scrabble thing.

just*raidin*tomb 15-01-12 19:24

Probably because we had already jumped and grabbed things before Day 3.

larafan25 15-01-12 19:26

^Great point. Also, I doubt that demo part of the game will be the first time we have to use the scramble feature, so it should end up being introduced beforehand.

I think right when we escape the den, all of that open space would be a good time to introduce us to our platforming skills. As apposed to two days later.

Well...the wall scramble was just a tutorial.

I assume and hope...we won't get a button prompt each time, or have time freezing on us...that would be stupid.

I think it's easier to mention what they've taken out than to list what has been added as a result. Essentially, we will not be drawn to surfaces. So if you jump on an angle, you won't find yourself hitting a ledge if you didn't intend to. That's what I assume the result of no magnetic gameplay will be.

Also, if there really is a lack of tacked on ledges and it's basic platforming like the classics, then there should be less room for climbing to feel sticky and magnetic. Not to mention boring.

It seems this is the next thing they'll talk about though, so hopefully we get to see some evidence of non-sticky ledges.

edit: In the leaked demo we can see Lara's turn a bit when she jumps over the balance beam, stumbles around on the roof and then falls and hits the balance beam, securing her grip.

I think the reason we'll get auto-grab is because we're probably going to be doing other things while climbing, holding other weapons too...

I also think we're going to spend less time stuck onto walls and more time jumping between surfaces.

That's what I'm talking about. You'd think, if there was a manual grab, that it'd be one of the first things the game tells you how to execute seeing as it would be such a fundamental move. There's no mention of it in the Den though, if that's still supposedly the first playable bit of the game, and there's a bit of running/jumping/grabbing going on there.

But it was a demo made to show off the new Lara really. Nothing more, even if it is the beginning of the game. I never see official gameplay videos with much hud, if any.

That's true, but I think the demos had different purposes.

The hub demo was more to show off some of Lara's climbing abilities, so whether or not that is when we are introduced to a possible manual grab or the scramble feature in the main game, that's when they should have had a tutorial for manual grab.

But I still assume it's autograb.

As much as i used to Love manual Grab back then, now i just got used to Automatic grab which is by Far easier and more Interesting to Explore areas easier without the need of holding a button to do it i seriously have no problem with it i LOVE <3 Auto grab but now if they bring again Manual Grab.... :yik: i'd have to get used to it but i don't think i will enjoy Climbing and Exploring as much as Auto Grab Climbing :/

Was it that? I don't think it was at all, Lara isn't the be all & end all of TR. Crystal had already showcased the new Lara in the GI reveal and other subsequent publications. The E3 demo showcased what Crystal had done with the actual game at that point.

If manual Grab comes back i hope it doesn't mean it's going to be the Default grab in the game they'd rather include it as an Option like previous games :ohn:
