I love levels like that. That are completely unexpected and take you some where new. I always get nostalgia with games like that. Uncharted 3 for example (dont say "I stopped reading at 'uncharted'" please) when we play as young drake. The setting was amazing also.

As I pointed out a few months back, the game is supposed to be hinged around Lara's transformation into the top banana, gun-toting archaeologist that everyone who isn't me absolutely loves. With that in mind, it's pretty unarguable that the trip on the Endurance, especially the shipwreck itself, is the first part of that transformation. By the time we supposedly take control, Lara's already walking the path.
It would've made a brilliant precursor to the main game in every way. A tutorial section and a chance to meet the new faces, get some background story and set the scene. |

I don't understand why they would cut off such important part of the trip. |

For the first time on the sialnd. You come out onto the beach of this beach hub area, the endurance is sitting in the water, you wade through GIANT crashing waves and enter. as Lara gets to her room the scene of her falling out of bed plays and BAM you're playing through the flashback and nobody knows what is going on, then when you wake up you're lying in the water in the beach hub, like "WTF". |
