Nice idea Jesse! I may post some of the objects I made :)

Continues from the old The Object Showcase thread. If you have shown pictures of objects in that old thread but didn't get any or replies to it yet, feel free to repost your screens here. :D |
As GH opened this thread yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to start working with meta. So I read dizzydoils tutorial and built the same candle, but a little bit different. And here it is:
My very first object. But it's untextured yet and it will be a pain to texture it. :( Since it was great fun to do it, I might do some more objects in the future and maybe one of them is worth to be released ^^ |
^
Amazing:tmb: If that's your very first object, I'm very surprised:eek: |
Thanks :)
Here's a textured version. Though I'll do it again with better textures, as it's way to small to fit the FE2 :) |
Wow! Awesome :tmb:
|
That looks fantastic, Soul!
I'm actually interested in meta, and I'd like to learn how to use it. Can you tell me where did you found that tutorial, please? |
If I understood :o, I should post update of request here?!
Well, so this is the Sneak Statue not already textured... @ Dunnut7 : it's 11 high clicks and fit on 1 block... I can't really make it as 8 clicks because the sneack will look too thin or fat! I'm waiting for your approval, then to texture it! |
Cool so on sunday I decided to be spontanious and try Meta, I downloaded the latest version (at least I think). So I have been practicing, not sure if I am doing it right, not sure how to optimize vertices for quality and that fun stuff, but these don't need to have a limit for the LE.
I have some questions to go with these screens.:) 1. How do I register Meta? apparently in order to export these objects as different filetypes I need to register. 1. How do I texture them? is it possible in Meta? |
1. You don't. You download the other version.
1. You texture them with StrPix. Yes, you can texture them in Meta, although I don't recommend it as it is absolutely pointless because you can't really import it like that in your wad. |
These are not going into a WAD...they are being used for a different program.
Thanks for the advice on my questions.:) |
These are not going into a WAD...they are being used for a different program.
Thanks for the advice on my questions.:)
You should probably download MetasequoiaLE R2.4 from the homepage. That works best for me. :) This way you don't have to register: it's freeware. It's also 64bit compatible. Objects are looking nice and natural, though. Great. :D |

http://img227.imageshack.us/i/snakestatue.png/ |

I'm actually interested in meta, and I'd like to learn how to use it. Can you tell me where did you found that tutorial, please?
Thanks :) It's basically tweetygwee's Metasequoia tutorial here on TRF. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=115107 I built everything according to the tutorial and then changed and added some parts. The tutorial is all about the basics but it's awesome how many things you can create with just these few tricks mentioned there. |
I dont believe Titak swaps axes anymore cause if you want to use reStrText you cannot use it and it is very handy if you are gonna retexture complicated meshes. There are more tutorials. A pity that the tutorial section is limited and you cannot look through the pages until you set the display options from the beginning. So I hope people have not forget mine here wich also gives good starting tips:
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=115344 With extrude commands you can create the same candle in minutes. |
Thanks for the link, Piega. I was reading about your tut on tweetygwee's thread but couldn't find it. :jmp:
|
Titak made a sticky Tutorial Index in the tutorials section to make finding tutorials easier.

Correct. I was about to point it out but you already did so. I did make the INDEX because of the reason Piega mentioned. :D |

My first complete mesh ever :D |
WOW!
Very nice :tmb:! Keep it up :). |
Niec object, WCookie!:tmb: If that's your first mesh, I'm really surprised:eek:
|
Very nice!
Did you use piegas great "extrude" - method? |
Very nice!
Did you use piegas great "extrude" - method?
Which method? :o Thank you everyone but I'm not gonna finish this object, I think it looks ugly, maybe I'll release it's mesh  |
I have a question!:)
So you know when you create an object with the cylinder primitive, and the base and top of it is segmented like a pizza. Well whenever I apply textures to these section they are super stretched or squished, does anyone know of a technique for texturing these pie segments?:) |
Open the texture that your trying to apply on the "pizza" (:p) in paint or a image software program thing and trim the size of it alittle (sorry im not good with measurements :)) and then import it into the wad with wadmerger and try the texture again, not sure if you know but you can also 'flip' the texture in strpic but holding down SHIFT and clicking it :) helps with texturing.

I'm texturing in Meta though :/ Do you think these skills still apply?:) |
Here is a meta tutorial I found on the net a while ago.
http://www.4shared.com/file/98609977/8ff4345/metadocs.html It explains a lot about meta's commands and a little bit about texturing in meta. It's for an old registered version of meta so some things won't apply. For more hints on meta texturing and lighting visit meta2tr's site. |
I was inspired by a screenshot posted in "The New Object Team" Thread.
(NOTE: The object won't be released i just made it because i was feeling inspired :)) And heres another pic before i texture :). Its the painting thing from TRL on the wall next to that grand window above the staircase (look here and on the first screenshot look left of the big window :).) Oh and this will be releases once i texture it unless a better one is released before then :). |

Nice objects:jmp: |
Thanks :) heres the finished version

.
WOW it looks awesome! You might concider changing the bar and lamp textures to something gold with a shiny effect, I think it would fit in better.:) |
