Fellow Raiders, today I bring you another piece of Tomb Raider history thought to be lost to time.
As you all know, in 1999, The Times newspaper celebrated the 75th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb with an exclusive bonus level "The Times".
What most of you probably don't know (or have forgotten) is that there was a short story that accompanied the release of the level as well.
The story was split into seven parts, the first part being released on the 27th of November 1999 and the last one on the 1st of January 2000.
The story was written by
Erica Wagner, a former literary editor of The Times, and is considered to be
semi-official as the entire thing was done in collaboration with Core Design.
The story is called "Down Among The Dead" and was featured in a section of the newspaper labelled "A Girl Called Lara".
Scans of the first issue that featured "A Girl Called Lara" were shared on this forum
here.
The full story of "Down Among The Dead" was believed to have been lost to time because only scans of Part 1 and 7 were preserved by
Virtual Lara. Part 4 and 6 were recently unearthed by
thetreeble and
Tomb Raider Arabia.
In the spirit of tomb raiding, I decided to go on a hunt for the missing relics. And I am happy to report that I have acquired the complete story.
You can download everything I've collected about "A Girl Called Lara" and a few extras related to Tomb Raider around that time
here (Now on
archive.org as well!). Enjoy!
