I compared a screenshot without the AA forced in the CCC of my old ATI card and a screenshot with MSAA 8X forced. It's exactly what I suspected, there is no difference...
I think the AA is activated by default with the ATI Rage renderer, but there is clearly a problem, because I have dropped frames ! It's curious, because I think that my PC could in theory handle MSAA 8X with an old game... How can I doo please ? I have only 20 fps ! Except that, it's perfect ! GLRage makes the game use openGL as its renderer as opposed to the original ATICIF that the version was designed for. Make sure your gfx card/drivers have full support for the recommended version(or higher) of opengl otherwise you may run into issues like I did when dealing with GLIDOS's GLRage fork.

I just precise that I have an ATI Radeon HD 4890 with an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 and 8 Gb or RAM.
It's old, I know ! But generally, it's enough to run old games with graphics at max as I said. But what is the recommended version of OpenGL for the ATI GLRage renderer ? My version is the "6.14.10.11672". Last edited by Lumberjack; 03-04-20 at 20:13. |

You shouldn't have any issues then. But you know, sometimes a program will just come across a specific hardware setup with specific drivers that it just decides it doesn't like. Had to deal with that way too many times on my old laptop.

So I have no luck !
By the way, could you confirm that there is antialiasing activated by default with TombATI please ? Thanks ! |

In the TombATI folder, there's a folder named "patches". In it there are some .ini files, the most important ones being tombati.ini for TR I and tombub.ini for Unfinished Business. In those you can change a lot of settings. Not the most user friendly way but better than nothing. I don't know if there's an anti aliasing setting in those .ini files, but it's worth a shot. And either way it allows you to do such things as deactivate texture filtering (which IMO makes 90s games look bad) or changing the water colour so that it looks like in the PS1 version.

Yes, I already tried ! Thanks !
But there is no function for the anti-aliasing. I almost sure the AA is enabled by default and maybe that's why I have dropped frames. Maybe it's not MSAA, which generally is fine with old games, but another type of AA. Generally I get dropped frames with the other ones. |

Have you tried forcing antialiasing off via your graphic cards driver?

I can't completely disable it, but I forced MSAA 2X and I got strange things as you can see here :
See the health bar And see the strange aliasing on the book Here is the game by default : If there is no AA I'm blind ! No aliasing on the book And it's strange that my framerate is exactly locked on 20 fps. No more, no less ! My theory is that there is an AA activated by default in the ATI GLRage renderer, maybe it's not MSAA (I have no problem with MSAA 8X on old games) and it impacts my framerate. I tried to disable the VSync but no difference. Last edited by Lumberjack; 04-04-20 at 18:57. Reason: I posted the pictures on Imgur |
