Well, I can agree with the criticism.

The train level was really boring and design was quite bad; the temple where you place the sceptre was very empty and nuisance when you had to jump to blocks to reach the other side of entrance (or maybe there was a shortcut? I dunno) and I was really REALLY dissapointed with boss fight in temple of Anubis (even the enemy did not look like Anubis). I would also like to add that there were a lot of switches to pull which was a nuisance for me.

But despite of all the bad sides there were good sides such as: the new menu which I was really impressed and shocked that can be achievable; the new secrets system which gives you stuff like: fanarts, music etc. And a lot of other technical advancements.

So in conclusion I think that the technical advancements were nice but level design not so much (If you played Tomb Raider 4 then you will know what to do)

But good attempt Mehrbod and merry christmas everyone

I was about to say the same... The design on this TRLE is kinda dissapointing
It feels like you're expecting an iconic game with all those interesting new modes and stuff... But ended being like a broken balance; you have an amazing knowledge on TRLE script but failed at design choices

Well done on trying something new but I do agree the implementation needs a lot of work. Much more testing prior to release will help for future releases. Hopefully some of these features will continue to be developed.

I also have some criticisms to make to this game but I'll write my opinions when I'm finished playing. You didn't start to play yet. You are waiting Mehrbod to give you back your beloved "J" key, this is what makes you so upset.
Meanwhile, play the Xmas levels! Those are a kind of works more comprehensible for you.
Don't act as if you know me or my intentions, so tone it down and back off with the pretentious snobbishness, will ya? Adding back in basic functionality doesn't resolve the painfully apparent design flaws at the core of this release (not being the only one who's openly critical of these questionable design choices if you didn't already notice). And the fact people like you are claiming Lost Secret of Egypt as this ambitious, fresh, high-quality take, are not only lying to themselves but to the community at large with your openly manipulative dishonesty and should be ashamed of yourself, for effectively encouraging plagiarism in this respect.

Fine. You want me to point out some quality debut releases instead? Well, here ya go then: Kaslerka's Lara Croft and the Tomb of the Gods, TheTiger's Greece Artefact entry for the 20x20x20 contest of 2011, Titak's Return to Egypt, GeckoKid's Beneath the Forbidden City, Feder's The Hidden Dagger, Sarikman's The Mountainous Temple, Piega's Catacomb Towers... I could be here all day, but I think you get the point.

Just because this is a debut release does not mean it should serve as an excuse for builders to slack off in areas and push out something which critics and players shouldn't be allowed to openly criticize in mass abundance accordingly, rendering your entire argument mute.

We should be championing against low quality projects and not encouraging it with welcome applause

^ maybe he's not best at level building but you're also not good at manners

Quite a hypocritical statement from someone who's entire last post was basically making bold allegations on what Mehrbod's driving forces and intentions were with this project. Instead of pointing out flaws in a civilised manner you dived straight into throwing accusations at somebody in regards to their "angle". That's something entirely different than simply critiquing a body of work for its merits (or lack thereof).

But this is what you usually do. Make pompous statements filled to the brim with hot takes and suppositions (presented as fact), but while to you it may seem like what you're saying is profound and righteous, to most people you end up looking like a hotheaded jerk. And as it was pointed out already, it's the Holiday season. Chill out, is this really that necessary to get so worked up over it at a time like this?

I'm sorry... How exactly am I being rude for merely expecting some reasonable degree of quality control from levels made available for others to play? It's not really asking for much, even from content offered for free.

Surely you of all people would understand this Daniel. But I suppose not. Such a shame. Goes to show how double-faced this community can be at the worst of times

@Krystian Very well, I'll back off now. But know this doesn't undermine what I think of this community's standards in the long term.

Seems you mistake or include some level of chastise in your criticism. At least tell him within his need-improvement areas what could be improved; instead only pointing out the bad, include some strengths it had in your review and suggestions/pointers on methods for improving areas that fell short. Shouldn't be much hard for a player whose played top-tier trle level such as Hypersquare, Above the Horizon, MoA, etc. or the well done debut level such as: Lara Croft and the Tomb of the Gods,, Return to Egypt, etc.

Daniel doesn't like negative critisim. He's proven that in previous posts. I agree with Ceamonkey on almost everything. I hope Merbod will continue to build and bring a stronger level. It could just be one great level instead of a set with the new features fixed. I did expect more in the level design when I downloaded it. Playing Kurtis kinda turned me off and I found the beginning tutorial section to be unnecessary.

And what's up with people wanting manners here? Or people want to be told what sounds good to their ears? And without criticism on any level, will not force the builder to the standard of a decent/good level.

No. Constructive criticism helps a builder grow. Chastising does not. Nor chastising under the guise of criticism either.
