Controllers work. Xbox controllers are the only immediately recognized. I recommend you get a Series Xbox Controller because the D pad is very smooth and very precise for this kind of game. The problem with other D pads including previous Xbox controllers is that the D pads can be bother some for the thumbs. I recall playing Tomb Raider on the Playstation and that absolutely sucked.

If they're using Tomb1Main and/or TR2Main Dualshock / Xbox controllers will work without any extra apps needed. TR2Main uses the Dualshock 4 really nicely with lightbar indicators for health and vibration.

For everything else (TR3 - AoD) I use DS4Windows. Steam Input would work as well for any other controllers I'd also imagine that there are plenty of user upload configs as well.

I use a DualShock 4 with DS4Windows but I cannot get the d-pad to work with TR3, it will only recognise the analog stick for movement which isn’t ideal for the classic TR games. How did you get the d-pad working?

I basically just map the keyboard controls to the controller like it was the PS1. Only difference being; flares are mapped to the left side of the touchpad and I've added left and right movement to the right stick. Kinda simulates modern movement similar to The Last of Us.

Here's a link to the profile xml. if you don't want to fuss with it yourself Tomb Raider 3 Dualshock 4 for DS4Windows

I like the 8BitDo Pro 2 for retrogames because the D-pad doesn't bother my thumbs at all. I was using the DualShock 4 before and it hurts!
